Just curious -- Do you have the 100-400 II + 1.4x III? Four years ago, I bought the 300 2.8 II because the IQ of the 100-400 v1 wasn't good enough. After acquiring the 100-400 II, the 300 2.8 II rarely came out of the house. I found that the 100-400 II + 1.4x III was close enough to the 300 2.8 II + 2x III that I ended up not using the 300. Thus I traded in that lens towards a 1DX2. I'm really happy with the 1DX2 + 100-400 II (with or without the 1.4x III). I also have a 5D4, but haven't used the 100-400 II much with it. The 5D4 is mostly attached to wider angle lenses.

Interesting observation, very interesting, gives me food for thought.....

A coupla bodies and a few lenses

Our camera club recently held a photo scavenger hunt in the Fairhaven district of Bellingham, WA. Here are a few of my shots and the categories they represent.

Care to explain your settings? High dynamic scenes should stick closer to ISO 100

DR doesn't look compromised to me in those photos (and that resolution). I thought any setting is acceptable as long as it got the intended shot.

I would have loved to be able to shoot those at ISO 100 or even 500. But after shooting a couple of hundred of the bird shots I knew I couldn't get the critical DOF and freeze any motion at f/4 and 1/30 sec.
Hope I didn't disappoint. :-)

Thanks for the explanation. They look good but was just trying to figure out the mental part of the setup for the shots.

I think I should try out shooting with auto-ISO, which I've never been able to do before owning a 5D IV. I usually know what f/stop I'd like to use, and the minimum shutter speed I'd need for the subject at hand, but then wind up always having to change the ISO, often shooting a bit higher than I might need, just because I don't want to change it again.
