I took this photo at a local historic cemetery on the way home from work today.

Ok, a mini review after using it at the weekend. Initial impression is that I'm very impressed with it. I have had it since Saturday morning and shot a rugby match and then went for a walk in Whitstable just before sunset.

Coming from a 5D2 and a 7D I am instantly in love with it. Some favourite features:

  • Focus speed is amazing and really accurate, even in near dark conditions.
  • The LCD touch screen is brilliant, makes menu selections a doddle.
  • The LCD is also really clear and looks so sharp.
  • Live view shooting is now useable for me, combined with touchscreen you can touch focus onscreen and it is incredibly accurate. You can also focus and take a shot from the screen, very cool.
  • Shooting video is also awesome and the lens focus tracks automatically and you can change focal points just with a tap on the touchscreen.
  • Built in WIFI is great, coupled with the Canon app and LR mobile on smartphones you can shoot, transfer immediately to the phone, run it through LR mobile and share it however you so please.
  • Higher ISO noise levels are much nicer and iso 6400 looks very nice. I'd only go to 1600 in the past at a push.
  • The shutter sounds very nice.
  • I like the addition of a mode selector lock button. Too many times has my other camera changed from Av to M or Bulb whilst slung over my shoulder!
  • Dual CF and SD slots are nice.
  • The computer tether lead can be locked onto the body which is a nice idea for tethered shooters.

I'm a bit annoyed that it comes with two enormous quick start guides for all the languages under the sun but the comprehensive user manual is download only...it would have been nice to have the paper manual in the box.

Here are a few shots from my weekend with it. I purposely shot into the sun quite often to see how recoverable the shadows are. Very is the answer!!

I tried with the digital lens optimizer setting switched on. Slowed down shooting quite considerably so I'd suggest it is no good for subjects such a mine! I can't say what effect this had in the image quality without further testing.

Transferred straight from camera via WiFi to my phone with the Canon connect app, processed in Lr mobile.

Really impressed with what Im seeing in here. Nice job everyone.

Now you all know why 5D3 prices are falling like a rock. Truly a game change sensor for canon shooters.

I have the 1Dx2 but next season, I will get a 5D4 for sure.

keep posting away
