I was wondering whether to post a pic of this ittle fellow on the Best Bird Porraits thread. :-) He was the only bird I saw in woodland during our English heatwave, A brilliant woodcarving, I reckon.

Terry---He looks fake, like a piece of wood. Seriously that's a cool shot; nice and sharp. Woodcarving was my hobby for many years. I never really sold many photos, but had good luck with my western caricature carvings.

More daughter photos. She's in the "very posable" stage of her development, so it gives me a chance to work on lighting :)

My pup Maddy is feeling a little neglected, so I'm including her in everything that I can.

Matt---That is an adorable shot of your little gal. Since I'm a dog person, I really like the shot of Maddy too. You are smart to include her all you can when you are with your daughter. I did it with my kids when they were babies, never pushing them aside, and the dogs always considered themselves protectors of the kids. We had wonderful luck doing that.

A personal story -- Collings Foundation's B-24J (the only flying B-24J in the world) recently visited the Skagit County Airport. My dad was a navigator on B-24s in WW II. I explained that to the Collings folks, and asked if I could see where the navigator sat. One of the pilots was very happy to show me.

The navigator sat just above the "R" in Witchcraft and faced rearward in the plane. The window in the side of the plane would have been about at the top of the navigator's head when the navigator was seated. BTW - the easiest way to get to the navigator's station is to climb into the plane through the nose wheel opening. That's what I did.

IMAGE: http://www.lj3.com/5d4/5d4_6_5.jpg

Here's the navigator's station featuring primarily the map table. The hole in the table allowed the navigator to use the drift meter. There was a bubble above him for using a sextant.

IMAGE: http://www.lj3.com/5d4/5d4_6_6.jpg

That's me sitting on the navigator's stool; the same place where my dad would have been sitting 73 years earlier. I felt honored to be there.

Good stuff, Mike. Maddy has been awesome so far, she likes to stick by the baby whenever possible, especially when she’s fussing/crying. My biggest fear was that Maddy would have been aggressive towards the child and we’d have to adopt her out, but I’m so thankful she’s accepted new girl into the pack :D

Like I said in the 100-400 II thread. Went to the local air show. With the Humidex it got to 43 Celsius (109 F). Wind gusts were up to 60 kil (37 mph). It was tough shooting. The wind was blowing me around.

Many thanks. He was hiding in the trees so it made a different shot.
