How do you like the sigma? I'm torn between this lens and spending some extra $$ and getting the Canon 1.4L II

Before I began my photography I would often just drive around and take in the scenery. It was hard to explain my simple appreciation of nature and I felt like something was missing. Incomplete.

Then in 2009 I purchased a Canon SX10 IS. A point and shoot camera with manual settings. I was clueless how to operate the damn thing, but the one thing I did know is that I loved taking photos and capturing what I had seen (and how I saw it).

Mind you, I was terrible in the beginning and for the first few years. Even now when I go back and look at my images I cringe. But that's the process of growth and I will always have more to learn.

The images I post today such as this one don't just reflect the moment. They reflect my journey to that moment. It's a personal endeavor that I'm happy to share with others who appreciate the simple moments of life that can be found in every one of our own backyards.

This image is just another evening at the Salt River. Happy Friday everyone!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
And pretty sure you're enjoying that 5DIV you picked up on POTN!

:-D

:-D :-D :-D It's an absolutely wonderful camera. I still have so much to learn, but I'm enjoying the journey!

It kind amazes me how few people have a camera for this kind of thing.. cell phone doesn't cut it for me.

Ah, your photos remind me fondly of those wonderful years of taking the photos of my kids in their youth orchestra. Back then I used Canon 20D, then upgraded to 40D with 70-200L f/2.8 and struggling mightily with the high ISO noise. Was able to take a few more when I upgraded to 5D III and shooting lot more confidently with higher ISO, but now that both are away to colleges very far, no more such occasions even though my younger son's still in his college orchestra. Wish I had 5D IV, my latest and recent upgrade, way way way back then!!

So far, I do really like it.
Is it slower to focus in low light.. yes it is. Not bad, but not snappy, not so I'd do fast moving objects in low light with it.

So if you are going to be in servo in low light.. get the canon.
The other thing I'll add: apparently with the copy variation, it will either be good or not for your camera.. there isn't many adjustments inside the lens itself according to lensrentals, so get one where you can exchange for a different one if it doesn't work out with your camera. Just what my research seems to show.

Mine appears to pair well with my 5D4 - I haven't put it on the 7DII yet.
I went back and forth on getting it or something else, but I want to do astro photography with it, and I've wanted a wide shallow for a while, and there was a cpricewatch street price special so I did it. Vendor had a trial period.

I did get a sigma doc for it, but haven't even taken that out of the box yet.

I'll know more when I get to spend more time with it.

Sys, I'm to the point now I don't really care about ISO (for general snaps) or worry about it unless there is a real reason to.. put it on auto and set the aperture and shutter and go! These sensors make it so much easier!

This is my wife performing with her band. On a dark stage. This is at ISO 5000 with the 70-300L lens @135mm, handheld @ 1/200 sec. Great sensor performance at high ISO. Shot handheld through lots of obstructions while I was on the stage at the side stage left. Lots of color adjustments due to crazy stage lighting.

Tonight's sunset... ( three pano stitch, then cropped a bit)
this ends up at 12% of the file, so below is a 100% crop.
The files are so flexible.. it's amazing.

Very pretty shot. I like the composition on this one.
