This was pretty spectacular....even for me.

I've seen Great Blues and Anhingas square off before....I guess they just don't get on very well. Usually they do the stare down, get all fluffed up, make noises.....that's about it.

But today I got to record David and Goliath.

Here they squared off...the Blue poofing all up....the Anhinga, flipping his neck around and squawking. Next thing I know the Anhinga leaps right into the Blue's face and I could tell the Blue was not at all expecting it. He did all he could to get out of the line of attack and backing down was not remotely in the Anhinga's plans.

Even as the Blue started to move away the Anhinga jumped up at the Blue again and fell backward into the water. That gave the Blue his chance to put a little distance between himself and the Anhinga.

Pretty exciting few seconds it was.

Bob, I'm only allowed to quote four images, but holy cow...this is a spectacular series from start to finish. Your photography here is superb.

I don't know what kind of lighting you used, but this shot came out very nice. I like both the softer highlights and shadows.

Thank you, Mike....very much.

It was pretty exciting and really a surprise. The fact that I was able to keep my composure enough to shoot was hard enough. Inside I was like....'holy crap....look at this...'

I found myself pressing harder on the shutter release......like that would be of some benefit.

Thanks Lame-Duck.

Key light is a 36” softbox just outside the frame, camera right. And there is a 20” softbox tucked into the corner of the room, camera left, providing the highlights.
