My neighbor's family stopped by and asked me to take some holiday/birthday (son had just turned one year) photos for them. I would have picked a different time of the day as there was quite a lot of squinting due to the strong sunlight. But they were such an easy-going, genuinely joyful family, which made everything easy.

Any advice or criticism, please feel free to respond!

If you are constrained by that time of day with that much sun, try moving into the shade (in the tree area right behind them). Then use a bit of flash to "pop" their faces. Beats the squinties . . .

Just my opinion. At the very least, shoot some of the session there and then decide afterwards. Film is cheap . . .

Great advice! Thank you for that.

Unfortunately I do not own a flash so that is not an option. I did have a few shots in the shade, which, without a flash, had uneven lighting...

Nevertheless, I still thought I could share these as I did enjoy the session even though conditions weren't optimal. And I loved how intimate the family looked.

Shooting under a harsh sun condition, there really isn't much you can do unless you go off flash or use a diffuser or both or choose a different time of the day under a soft light condition.

Finally managed to pull the newest addition to my bag out and snag a bit of an abstract of a sunset tonight. Also still mucking about with rawtherapee under Linux.

Not sure why but this thing is just more comfortable to me to use over the R. Probably because I have used similar body types before and don't have to worry so much about bumping the touch screen with my finger or nose or something. Probably just a more familiar setup over the R.

Set myself a challenge today. Dull, foggy, dank, and a place I have walked with my camera hundreds of times before. I managed to come up with something... just about!

Got out for a little bit today and tried my hand at a little wildlife photography. Still been trying to use rawtherapee on the images. Not sure its working but I am getting a bit more comfortable trying to use the software. I got to say, for the most part the sigma lens, I am a bit impressed with considering its price point and these are handheld. Tried a mono pod for a couple shots with a ball head and it was very awkward lol. Probably not the best pics, but I got out for a bit for a few photos :-)

Edit: does the second image have a bit of green tinge to it?

And one more black and white image... the background on the full sized image went about whack, I think its just the background itself didn't have enough separation but I tried :-)
