Having never shot video on an SLR before, prefer to shoot manual as that is what I do for still pictures and was wondering why it still allows me to set the shutter speed when shooting video? Doesn't the chosen video quality setting dictate how many frames per second it is technically shooting?

Doesn't the chosen video quality setting dictate how many frames per second it is technically shooting? Generally, the shutter speed is based on the 180-degree shutter rule, which is a doubling of the frame rate. If the frame rate is 24 fps, shutter is set to 1/50, 60 fps, shutter is 1/120, and so on. I think the purpose is to create a natural looking motion blur. I don't do much video either, so perhaps someone who is more experienced with video will weigh in.

Aug 26, 2023 21:45 | #9800 I will say this. I am spending much less time processing my photos. A lot more of them are crop, resize, and that's it. My wife wondered if spending the money on the 5D4 body would be worth it. Even she says it was.

Here I am still rocking the 5D Mark IV and even reached a point where I had to disassemble the damn thing to replace a dial. Here I am still rocking the 5D Mark IV and even reached a point where I had to disassemble the damn thing to replace a dial. Yeah, I'm still using the 5DIV, too. I think that it is interesting that, except for action photography (sports, wildlife, birds, etc...) where autofocus and frame rate are significantly better in mirrorless, there is no real benefit to mirrorless over the 5DIV.
