I have the dock, and IIRC think I set it to dynamic, although even then it is nowhere close to the effect you see in the viewfinder with the 100-400L or even with other Canon IS lenses that I have looked at in store at various times. Still the results speak, and that is what really matters. After all when I rented the Tamron 150-600 and left the VC on while shooting an airshow it looked great through the VF. Unfortunately the VC on the Tamron doesn't work when panning, and at shutter speeds below about 1/500s suffer from severe feedback at all focal lengths. Shooting propellor driven aircraft my maximum shutter speed is 1/160s. The firmware fix didn't make the VC work, it just automatically turns the VC off, you need the new MK II Tamron for VC with panning. So what you see in the VF is no indication of the results that you are going to get from the camera/lens combination.

Have a read of the photo sample thread for this lens. Good tips contained amongst all the photos. You aren't the first to think OS wasn't working :-)

I have to say that my 150-600 C doesn't have that pronounced "snap and freeze" effect that you get with the Canon 100-400 L I, which is the only other lens with IS/OS/VC that I have much experience with, when looking through the VF. What I can say is that it certainly seems to be effective when looking at the photos.

True...my Canon 70-200 IS II and 300 f2.8 IS II both have that snap & freeze effect BigAl speaks of.

So when I got my 150-600 C I was concerned because its OS was more muted when looking through the VF.
But the OS does work well, as can be seen in the photos.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

Yes, it seems that the results are noted when looking at the photos, not when looking through the viewfinder.
I often take photos of distants objects (moon, birds, whatever), and handheld. So, i really want the OS working when i'm looking through the viewfinder; it's really easier to frame the objects when OS is working. I have this lens and the old version (150-500), and is black and white.
I've ordered the usb dock and i hope i can change the setup of the OS.
