How does it compare to the 1Dx2? Is the 5dmk4 better?

I would presume with such a new sensor design, and 3 camera releases in a year using that sensor design, they should all be very close to the same type of performance. I would think it would take a longer cycle than this to tweak/improve the sensor, hardware and firmware to do anything better.

They are not shot at the same shutter speed. The 5D3 was shot at 1/1600 shutter speed and the 5D4 was shot at 1/1250. That is 22% more light for the 5D4.

The framing is a little different and ambient light conditions could have changed between shots making that necessary for an equivalent exposure. My 5D4 meters a little differently than my 5D3. This could be another factor. The numbers don't necessarily equate to 'more light' for the 5D4.

I agree. It may have been a "quick comparison", but I don'[t feel that it was a valid one.

Once you decide on an exposure, set it in manual on both cameras. Then shoot the test before the light changes.

Yep, will do. I was lazy and sloppy. again: mea culpa. I took care to set the same ISO and aperture, but must have been in aperture priority and not manual

N00B!!! all pros shoot M only.

;)

anything outside under variable light conditions is going to give you a headache, go inside and light up one bulb in the room then find a spot that is 2 stops underexposed in M and set it up on a tripod. Make sure it's contrasty so some highlights are pretty hot but some shadows are black. IMO set the white balance to tungsten and forget it.

test 100, 800 and 3200 if you really want to impress us.

once you get on the computer push them two stops then three.

fwiw, even with the little change in SS it looks good. cheers

while true, they do seem to be pulled the same amount, the 5D4 exposure looks brighter.

even same exposures, my bet is it wont make a difference.
