Using an A7S II it seems you can record video regardless of which mode you are in, auto, aperture, shutter priority, etc.

1. If in auto mode, and I hit record, does the camera simply shoot video based on auto settings that it determines?
2. If in aperture mode, and I hit record, does the camera just take on the settings applied for stills in aperture mode?
3. I tried going into shutter priority mode and I adjusted the aperture though I could not figure out how to adjust the shutter speed. Where is the setting to do this?

Thanks.

When your shooting video the camera is probably using the 180 rule. In that if you have it set to 30fps the shutter is defaulted to 1/60 in shutter priority mode (this is my guess - I always shoot in manual mode)

In manual mode you need to be careful about breaking the 180 rule because a faster shutter speed can give you stuttering.

1.) If shooting 30fps and there is not much motion, based on the rule, the shutter gets adjusted to 1/60 and if 24fps than the shutter gets adjusted to 1/50?

2.) What do you do if you are trying to capture lots of motion, running, fast cars, etc.? How do you increase the shutter speed in that case whether shooting 30fps or 24fps?

Thanks!

You can shoot at a higher frame rate - this is why some people spend the money on the Red. the downside(?) is when you convert back to the viewing speed of say 30fps the footage becomes slow motion

Of course with video having ultra crisp images as found in still photography is not always necessary as we (the audience) understands that a race car zooming past is going to look like a blur
