I just got an iMac and had to put lightroom on it (been using a pc laptop). I also put the google nik editing software on the iMac. Now, when I try to edit a photo in lightroom and go to edit in nik lightroom tells me that it was unable to prepare the file. Is there something I am missing to get it to work? Thanks in advance, Cole

Cole,

Had something similar a while back. I uninstalled the Nik collection and re-installed to restore functionality. Hope that helps.

Is this happening only when you use Nik as a plug-in from Lightroom? Does it do the same when you open in PhotoShop 1st and then Nik?

just Nik. It might be because i had them on an external hard drive that there is some kind of permission that I needed to fix when i put them on my external at the beginning.....

And I just realized that when I imported into lightroom, I converted all the files to DNG. so now, when I put all the files into my collections on my iMac, the files are all DNG and not RAW? Is that possibly the problem.

However, on my laptop. I could go from lightroom to Nik when they were DNG files... so who knows...

Permissions could be a problem. I'f be interested to know the results. Have you checked your external file format preferences in Lightroom?

As for DNG it isn' a problem. DNG is Adobe's RAW format. It is a RAW file. There are a lot of arguments for and against converting to DNG but they are mostly six of one and half a dozen of the other.

I figured it out. I had to re format the external drive for an OS operating system. It took a while, but so far it is working well.
