Does anyone know if I can use the computer cable from my 50D on a 5DMK2 - or are they all camera-specific? Don't want to buy another cable if I can avoid it.

You'll be fine, they're all the same.

If you get a newer camera with USB3, you'll get a new cable for that in the box, but in your case it will work.

Yes, as long as the connector fits, you're good to go. Interestingly, as long as you're not using it for a hard drive, a micro-USB connector will actually work on a USB3 device - at USB2 speeds. There are 2 separate sections to the connector, one of which matches the USB2 pinout and the other has the USB3 high speed lanes. I've done this in a pinch when I couldn't find a proper USB3 cable.
