If you do infrequent printing, an inkjet will bring you lots of plugged cartridges and expensive ink. I use Walmart for prints. It takes less time to pick them up than to fool around with a printer.

After moving, I pulled my old i9100 out of the garage a few years later, plugged it in, and started printing. Using the same ink cartridges that had been left in it 3 years earlier before the move. That i9100 for example was purchased in 2003. It remains operational today. This has been my normal experience with Canon ink jets. I am impressed. Is this general experience with Canon printers? This is my experience too, I have never had any real issues with my MG5150 which must be getting on for the better part of 10 years old now, it was a relatively new model when I got it. It certainly has behaved better than any of my Epson printers. From what I understand the Canon Dye based printers are great, those using pigment ink on the other hand may well be more prone to clogging and other issues.

It quickly fell into disuse because of ink hassles. Because of the problems, it has been sitting unloved, unused and unplugged behind a closed closet door for years now. A friend has a large-bed Epson - similar headaches. I have several Canon printers, from an old MP830 that is still my primary printer up to a Pro-100. They go for months between use and I've never had a clogged nozzle. -- Mark | Gear | Flickr
