I had such I high hopes and have been putting off upgrading lenses all summer, but with no 4k it basically means this camera has absolutely zero ability to shoot any B-roll stock.

Call me skeptical but with the number of quality camera companies, smartphones taking away a lot of casual users and having multiple sensor sizes there has to be a breaking point in the near future as to what camera companies can afford to offer in multiple lens mounts. I see this as a camera system that is already obsolete with no assurance of future longevity. M5 or 110 film? You would think so, but the smartphone has been around now for 5+ years, and yet this still moves forward. In fact the opposite may be true. Smartphone users may decide they want to be more serious about photography, and therefore buy a camera system. I know several personally that have done this. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

I think instead they merged the two ideas and gave us the M5. perhaps, but I don't think so... there is enough in the rumor mill to point toward a Canon ff mirrorless. Let's just say, if they do announce one this year, it won't take me by surprise. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

I'm not so sure about phones taking much (if any) market away from enthusiast cameras like mid-range DSLR's and MILC cameras. I could care less that the camera doesn't shoot 4K. I have no way to watch, process, or store 4K anyways. I can just buy an EF/EFS adapter and use my current glass too. I agree, I've had several friends ask me about camera recommendations because they had gotten into taking photos by playing with the camera on their phone. I live in a very heavy traveled area visited by tourists, vacationers, and students from across the country visiting on field trips all of whom are carrying cameras. There is no doubt in my mind that the number of DSLRs or even cameras being carried my visitors have dropped significantly in the past three years.

Considering this one just came out, Canon is still playing it safe in terms of the mirrorless market. Canon :: R5 | R6 | RP
