The lack of non native lenses is where the issue is...not much in the EF-M mount...if you're going to use EF lenses then you're not really gaining much in the smaller size of the M5

Not only that its a small lineup, its also made of some really slow lenses. But they do come in two colours ;-)a

Agreed, but when you get to lens of a certain size, isn't the camera always just an attachment anyway?:-)

I've shot with 400 2.8... your lens is tiny.

if I use an EF lens I'd rather use my superior 5D4.

I want smaller camera but want GOOD solid awesome smaller lenses. Fuji HAS all of this.

Sorry I'm a fuji fanboy... would love them to come out with a 24mp X-E3... I'm waiting and if they don't I know they'll release a XT-20. Either of these will be for the wife and later I'll pick up a XT-2 for me.

5D will be for portraits, studio, sports.... fuji everything else.

I just ordered a Graphite X-T1 with a 56/1.2 for the exact same reasons. Small body, small lens great IQ. Canon really should have learned lessons from Fuji. Sorry to anyone who've ordered an M5, I'm not hating on the camera, I really thought it was great when I heard about it, but an adaptor adding to the size of it wasn't for my circumstances. ( needing a small light set up with 2 very young kids and 1 on the way ) Looking forward to people posting pics though, I'll be following the thread with interest :-)

I hope Canon is looking at a full-frame mirrorless system and a native glass system for mirrorless system say "EM" mount and L glass....
The EF-M glass kind of discount the whole system considering the good performance of the EOS - M5. :D

While I understand where you are coming from, the actual numbers always seem to surprise me. While Canon does not have a 56 1.2 (84mm full frame equivalent), Canon does have a few 50mm (80mm full frame equivalent) lenses.

The Numbers are:

The Fuji XT-1 (440) and the 56 1.2 (405) is 845 grams. The M5 (427), adapter (105) and 50 1.4 (290) is actually only 822 grams which is less than the Fuji. Now, if you wanted something lighter, you could substitute the 50 1.8 (130 grams) for the canon 50 1.4 which would save you 160 grams (for a total of 662 grams or 183 grams less than the Fuji). Now, if you did want to go for the 50 1.2 (545 grams), you would come up with 1,027 grams (182 grams more than Fuji) which is clearly more.

Please don't get me wrong, I get that with the right lens combo mirrorless cameras can be very light and are in fact great cameras and that certain systems may have more native lenses. Yet, the M5 with the EF-M 22 (which is actually a pretty decent lens) is only 532 grams (which is how I intend to use it most of the time). While I hope that Canon will make more native EF-M lenses, the simple fact is that for those of us who are invested in the Canon system, the EF-M adaptor gives us the option to use both EF and EF-S lenses when we want all the while being very similar in size and weight to its competitors. The M5 is not the perfect camera, but it is a step in the right direction in my opinion.

Now as to actually getting the M5, did anyone else get a notice today that release date was delayed until 12/8?

Doesn't matter when the Fuji IQ exceeds the M3/M5 anyway. Their new 24MP sensor is on par with a 5D3 it's that good.

I have the 18/2 and the 35/1.4 too which together weigh just over 300g. Thats a bag full of small fast primes with great IQ. There are a whole lot more 1.4 primes too add to the kit as well. Canon needs to make more native M mounts to get people hooked.

I'de say the extra 6mm x 1.5 factor + 1/3rd stop, go a long way. Canon's 50 f1.4 is a total dog with reliability issues galore. Arguably one of the worst bokeh lenses from canon. The design of both lenses are likely very different. Canon does have one thing going for it, arguably the best 20-24mm lens on the market, the 22 f2 stm, and that can satisfy many folks.

Fuji's lenses are pretty big for APS, but you dont go into a mirrorless system purely on size, just one of the perks. Native lenses means less fiddling with adapters, however if you have multiple adapters, then that's less of an issue.

I had the XT1 and the 56mm f/1.2 it was a lovely combo.... no ba things to say about the camera, but to me, the Images i took with it were "eh"..... do i got rid of it... in fact i've owned it twice.... not just once... and the same thing, images were OKAY..... for me. I felt the OMD EM1 gave me better image quality.

not hating on any of the cameras.... the M5 look promising but it is lacking in the lend dept as well.... so i get it. i'm really considering getting an original a7 (for cheap) and using some old canon FD glass....

I've said it before, I don't think the M5 is the ideal camera for those looking for a compact full standalone system. It is only going to benefit those invested in Canon. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the current lenses, yes they are a bit slow but hopefully that will improve over time - it's not a deal-breaker for me. I wouldn't buy an M5/EF-M setup as my main camera system, but I am looking forward to receiving mine in about 1hr 24mins! I think it's going to be a great companion to the 1DX2, far better than the M3 was. If it's clear tonight I might stick my EF300 on it with a x2 TC and see how it gets on with the moon (one of the standard new-camera tests along with the fireplace, back garden etc!!) ....

I liked all of the images from both cameras in those albums!! I reckon we get too picky after a while. That's why I drive my Defender to work sometimes, then when I get back in my car it seems like a new car!

Exactly.... I think the M5 is a fun camera to use for fun and to capture good stills, not to be used for a full on professional... i can wait to put my 600mm on my m5... lol
