They just need to contact Fuji to make their lenses in an EF-M mount lol.... problem solved.

It would be interesting. I definitely like Fuji's mirrorless lens line up better than Canon's.

However, I do not want EF-M mount based lenses that cost $500+ and are limited to this one camera. I'd rather it share the EF mount with most of my lenses so that it can be a multi-purpose camera. I would however shell out for a good fast pancake prime. When I'm out with my girls I like having a wide fast prime. I tried the zoom thing and I didn't care for it because it's big, knocks around, etc. We did the Jacksonville Zoo last weekend and I did the whole place with my 5D and 35 F2 IS without a strap. It has a steel ball in it's tripod shoe hole and my belt buckle had a receiving cradle that locked it in. I could pick it up no problem, and drop it back in and the steel ball locked in and off we went. Very handy. Made carrying a dSLR a breeze in the park with my 3 year old and 6 year old and a couple of adults less of a chore to keep it from swinging around or being in the way. Felt like carrying a pistol on my hip instead. Much more family friendly. My EOS-M and 22mm F2 STM would have provided the same opportunity, but be smaller and even more simple, and super super easy for me to hand to someone else to take a few photos with. But, the 22mm pancake is so slow to focus, I don't care to use it as much with the kids when they're excited. Lounging around the house it's fine. But at the zoo and other places, they're running in circles and the little 22 STM cannot focus fast enough reliably, it's just too slow for it, and when I'm really keeping up with them I just stop down for full depth of field and get them that way. So instead, I end up using a full frame and 35mm instead. I could have used a smaller camera and my 40mm STM pancake, but none of my full frame cameras are small. And APS-C + 40mm is too tight for a one-lens solution when I'm out with the kids.

Would love love love an 18mm F2 pancake. I would fall over for that lens. Fuji may end up earning my money due to this if Canon cannot come close soon. I got my EOS-M and 22 STM because I loved the pancake lens, F2 speed, and big sensor in such a small camera. I really like the EOS-M actually, except for how slow the focus is.

The 24mm STM pancake would be awesome on the EOS-M, but, requires an adapter and is basically as big as a large non-pancake prime with the adapter installed. So that's not going to do me any favors.

The M5 on the other hand, with the EF-S 24mm F2.8 STM would be interesting as a "do all". But, I sure would like to have it a wee bit wider and F2. The 22 F2 is really a great lens and I like the FOV and aperture. Just don't dig the slow focus speed. If they could re-release that and it speed up, I'd buy it for sure.

18mm F2 pancake though... Fuji is so tempting.

23mm F1.4 is also super tempting, but that lens is not small nor pancake. So that's not going to win me over at all.

I guess we'll see what Canon does to flesh out the M line. Their latest zooms for the M series are interesting. But my main interest will be the M's ability to merge with all my current Canon line lenses without having to basically have a 2nd system. I'm ok with one lens for the M that is EF-M (22 STM). But if it's a full system to have other lenses that are useful or unique, I'll get a Fuji at that point.

Of course, there's also waiting around to see what Canon will do in terms of dropping a small full frame mirrorless...

Very best,

MalVeauX: You keep saying the EF-M 22mm f/2.0 has slow AF, but then I see you used it on the M, not the best camera to judge the focus speed of a lens! I use it on the M3 and I have zero issues with its focussing speed. It's a superb lens and I'm sure attached to the M5 it's focussing speed will be even better.

exactly.

at the end of the day, it is the benefits of the whole system (body + glass) that enable the user to shoot.
Good body + Good glass = Good System :D

Yes, I like it and use it on the M1.

I've asked around if the M3 truly allowed the 22 F2 STM pancake to autofocus with a faster speed, but all the replies I've gotten is that it's still a slow to AF lens. Reference to the 40mm and 50mm STM for being also not-fast, and the 22 STM being slower than both of those.

I almost got an M3, but I've yet to see a clinical example of the 22 F2 STM focusing significantly faster on the M3's body (ie, a video showing it's ability to go from MFD to infinity compared to M1).

I'm also holding out to see how the M5 behaves with it.

I don't expect the 22 STM to suddenly act like ring USM. I'm merely hoping it's able to speed up to at least that of the 40 & 50 STM. The 18-55 STM is faster than both of those, noticeably.

But, that said, I'd still adore seeing a 22 STM II reboot with a better faster AF.

Maybe your expectation of speed of AF from the 22 on your M3 is different from what I consider to be fast?

Very best,

I don't expect it to focus as fast as my L lenses on my 1D4 and 5D3, that would be silly lol! I just don't see it as a problem on my M3 and it's no quicker or slower than my other M lenses. I have used the 50mm f/1.8 STM on my M3 and that's no quicker than the 22mm. Just out out of interest, your 22mm is not faulty is it?

It seems Adobe is lagging behind yet again, no way of importing CR2 files from the M5 to Lightroom. I wonder how long it will take them.....

Patience grasshopper. It's been like three days since the camera was released.

I'm not good at patience!! ;-)a I've already waited two months for the camera!! To be fair though, I don't know why Canon don't just offer DNG format as well as CR2 (like some others do).

You could just use adobe's dng converter, see if that solves it

I think it still needs to be able to read these new CR2 files

How do you want Adobe to convert RAW files from a brand new camera it had no previous access to? Adobe needs time to develop and test RAW support for new products. It is very typical for everyone - not just Adobe - to take time for this. You'll probably have to give it a couple of weeks.

I understand the reasons. It would be better if Canon (and others) just used or at least offered DNG capture. Would save a lot of hassle, Pentax do it.

I'm guessing Canon communicating with Adobe to get that done before the release date would make too much sense.

They might have, but adobe doesn't make a release for just one camera. We are due for an update soon, and canon nearly always gets supported on the very next patch after their cameras are released.
