Profoto just announced the D1 successors, the D2 -- the main differences seem to be the inclusion of TTL/HSS along with some impressive flash durations (only t0.5 quoted, though) I'm looking forward to adding at least a 1000ws head to the kit, for studio use.

Hi CICADA,

Thank you for the Profoto D2 links.

I had unrealistically been holding my breath waiting for an AC adapter cord for the Profoto B1 product-line.
From a user’s perspective an AC adapter makes practical sense, but for a business model it would likely be adversely inconvenient to the existing D1 product-line sales. While I’m a heavy & reasonably loyal user of Profoto products (including D1’s & a variety of Profoto light modifiers & now B1’s) and respect Profoto’s engineering & manufacturing workmanship, the lack of a AC adapter for the B1 product series, was & continues to be a disappointing decision.
[So I guess I would say Profoto is “always up to speed” (except when it comes to adding an AC adapter to the B1!)]

Here is an interesting & entertaining D2 application:

Same here -- that would have been a dream -- and i'm not sure what all would be involved in it, but i'm surprised any third parties have attempted to make some sort of adapter "brick" that would snap in place of the battery and provide AC power.

Agreed.

Interesting. I'd be interested in possibly picking up a pair of D2's (500's or 1000s, i havent decided yet, but the 10-stop range on both means i wouldn't have a problem with 'too much power' with the 1000s) for high speed stuff and its recycling time. If we extrapolate the t0.5 times of 1/65000 it's roughly a 1/20000 t0.1, which is super fast! Not accurate by any means, but just an estimation.

I wonder if Broncolor's got anything cool in store for Photokina. I almost hope they don't because I just bought my move kit :-P

Re: Photokina…

For high resolution & large print portrait applications, I’m hoping for a Nikon D810 Replacement (probably timing is about right for something to be released), then I will be well-positioned gear wise for 3-4 years.
If not, that is ok too because life is good.

While photographer skills & proficiency obviously count, find that for my discerning target-market clients, quality output from gear does help/matter to differentiate too.

As commented by Jason Lanier in these recent video:

Happy shooting (regardless of the gear) !
