Hey guys, by professional style I mean ones that I would want to put on my professional profile picture on linkedIn or company pictures and the like. Post your examples or materials on this matter, doing one very soon! I have an idea I'm aiming for but any inspiration/help will be nice. Thanks!

Update: Waist up to shoulder up closeups.

Update: Help with facial expressions / angles as well.

Please forgive me as I mean no offense to you but your initial post sounds a little panicky, as if you have never done this before. It sounds as if you have gotten involved in a professional shoot with no experience. If that is the case I am curious why you would have agreed to do this if you are that insecure about a successful outcome?

Amateurs attempt to shoot professional style headshots for friends all the time. No harm in that, if expectations are understood. This could be the case here.

Lol my gf wants a headshot for her linkedin profile picture. We've done other shoots before that were more lenient to style (I've posted them around here a little). I wasn't sure if career type pictures for profiles had any norms/rules about them.

I may be more forgiving if you had some samples posted ;)

Yeah I went through most of those, they're great shots but finding the online professional (in the profession sense) profile pictures were few and far between. It's like maybe what I was looking for isn't even out there yet. I want a midway between actor headshots and career headshots. It seems like for the most part you don't get much room doing a corporate picture, and actor/actress headshots are dramatic (as they probably should be?). I feel like semi-professional websites like linkedin and professional pages on facebook have a little more room than a corporate picture, but not over the top acting headshots.

start with the basics (external link)

then add hair lights, kickers, background changes, back lighting, etc. to add as much or as little to the shot as you/she wants.

the fact that you have a willing subject is at least half the battle, even if you get something that you both like early on make sure to continue to explore a bit. IMO, it's you can look at examples all day long but you will learn a lot more by doing than looking.

I may try having a continuous for fill so that I can have a stronger back light (restricted by amount of flashes). The ratio is a little flat. Looks a little too basic for me, but for what it's purpose is I think it's alright. I was having trouble with the creativity for a linkedin profile pic studio type hehe.
