Serious odd couple. The snail kites often steal snails from the limpkins. This limpkin tolerated the kite landing on the branch next to it.

A male & female Australasian Grebe on the lake at the Mt Cootha Botanic Gardens in Brisbane, making it very difficult for me by placing themselves between the camera and the sun. I had to whip out the Speedlite to kick some light into the shadows.

Cheers

Stellar shots Dennis. Both are beautifully done, but I kinda like the 2nd shot the best.

I don't know. That's just the way they look. I do know that a while back someone sprayed them with red paint and they had to be taken somewhere for rehab, but I would think they would have molted since then. After that happened, security cameras and warning signs (No Trespassing - Violators will be Prosecuted - Security Cameras in Use) were installed, so I couldn't get any closer. It was very cloudy and getting dark when I was there. Their necks look lighter when there is more sunlight, but they are definitely a different color than their bodies are.

There was more daylight for this shot, and you can see that the neck looks quite a bit lighter, but is still a different color that the body: POST 18781250.

First I thought it was low standing sunlight or so but the necks differ to much from the body's. It's a shame that they have to go to those lengths to protect the birds, some people....

I was editing my post at the same time you were quoting it, but I added a link to a photo of one of the swans when there was more light. Not as much of a difference when there is more daylight, but still not the same color as the body. POST 18781250

These guys took off into the sunset when it was really getting dark, but I still kind of like the way their little feet are hanging down so I thought I would post it anyway.

"Gear up! Gear up!" LOL
