Wheel Bug - new to me

These were on the lid of our garbage container last week. They were there in the evening and still there in the morning. I don't believe I have ever seen this type before. Arilus cristatus.

Nice captures.
I've not seen or photographed them mating, but have captured a few of them. When I first discovered one, I had to do a little research to find out what it was. I learned these are a very good insect to have in your garden. They prey on the pests. One thing to remember, never try to handle one of these. Their bite is described as being the most painful of about any bite you could get. I've read where someone that has actually been shot, claiming the bite feels just like being shot. The pain generally goes away in a few days..

Since taking these photos, I have also learned these facts about these creatures. Also, in looking through some photos I took in 2007, I found one of a wheel bug. However, it was not detailed enough for me to identify it until now.
