There is a rumor going around about Sigma and a flagship lens coming to Photokina. Wonder what the price will be.

I was kind of hoping it would be a 400 F2.8. Maybe it'll be half the price of what the 1st party manufacturers sells it for. $4000/$4500 USD

I'm hoping for $3800, if its $5500+ it might be a tough sale.

Canon rumors is reporting a 500mm Sport along with an 85mm Art and a 12-24mm Art. It's only a CR1, yet they anticipate an announcement as early as today.

Seems they deliberately left the weight on the 85A out.

I suspect this will be a very heavy lens. The 50A is pretty good weight.

That chart shows that it has one more element than the 50 Art, so--to any prospective buyers who haven't done so already--lose the neck strap, and replace it with a sling. ;-)a

On a side note, I just noticed that Sigma's website doesn't seem to provide a specifications tab for lenses anymore. I'm able to locate the info of course, but if there's one place I expect to find it without much trouble, it's the manufacturer's damned website--TREMENDOUSLY irritating.

That's a good price point for them, a good 2 grand under Canon's II. This may induce Canon to provide some rebates on their version more frequently if the Sigma has competitive IQ.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I've wanted a 500mm for a long time but just couldn't handle the price of the Canon model. B&H lists this $3000 under the Canon version. Looking forward to seeing this lens tested against the Canon.

I've never really seen the sigma big glass hold value for very long. used market will drop into the mid 4k range. Even for that price though you can buy a Canon V1.

Right now there is a V2 lens in the for sale forum for 7k which is only 1k more and promise you that thing will hold that value for years. I like this lens and I love options but the price should of started at 4k to let it settle down into the 3k range after a year or two....

would of sold many many more.

+1, Talley! That $7K deal on the II is a steal! They also become available on the refurb store every now and then for $7200.
