Going out on a limb here since I have always received great advise here in the past just wondering and pondering the purchase
5DS or the 5D4

mostly wildlife, birds, sports, landscape more or less in that order.
What would your choice be and why? I am going out to PA tomorrow to shoot and look forward ot coming home and hopefully seeing something that will inspire my next purchase. Experience on either of the bodies, shots etc. all welcome......

I have had the 5DSR for a few months now and find it quite good for wildlife. Not as fast as I would like in some situations, but the IQ is excellent.

I just got my 5DIV yesterday so I have not had enough time to fully evaluate it. My first impressions are good. Speed is better, and high ISOs seem better.

I use Light Room which does not support the 5DIV yet so testing is limited for now.

At this point I would not be able to advise you as to which to get, sorry.

Do you shoot at night or in challenging light situations?
This would be the largest determining factor if I was you as the ISO limitations of the 5Ds may not be ideal for your work.

I was told that the DSR was not good for wildlife so I avoided it and was waiting for the 5D MIV and I really wasn't initially impressed with it. I am kind of waiting to see what most of the users that experiment do. I actually had thoughts of the new camera or glass (Sigma300-800). I'm actually looking forward to seeing some shots and making a judgement call.

I think you'd be fine with either really. Plenty of people shooting wildlife with 5Ds bodies so I'm not sure whoever gave you that opinion knew what they were talking about.

I was considering waiting for the 5D4 before it was even announced but I ended up getting a true all rounder, the 1DX2. I know it's expensive for some budgets but it really is good at everything. Just have a look at the 1DX2 Owners thread and see some of the images people are churning out, megapixels really don't make an image better, and even if you're printing big they still don't matter unless they're going to be viewed from a foot away. If the 5D4 had come out earlier I probably would have got that instead, as that is sure to be a great all rounder and has good resolution for the pixel peepers, but I'm glad I got the new 1DX. For days out with the family etc I have my M3, soon to be updated, plus my excessive collection of film cameras. For anything where resolution or great dynamic range is required I have a 645Z.

With your needs I'd probably go for the 5D4 but of your budget allows then the new 1DX is great at everything and worth a look.

Days of reviews weeks of researching and pain staking agony of the long awaited choices. I used a friends 5D MIV and have decided this is the one for me . I hope I dont live to regret it..... And if I do I can always get something else....Right now it will still be a step-up from my current 6D and the 60D will go to my daughter or my son....

Thanks for everyones help and advice I really appreciate it...

Well here goes the long story made short.... Ordered the 5D MIV before it came canceled order and picked up a 7D MII so far not bad choice. I actually saved myself money and gained some reach with the 1.6

So far not complaining but maybe the new camera will happen down the line but as for now I found other things to use the funds on.

I think either would have been a good choice. It is kind of hard to pigeon-hole these cameras. It really depends on your use. I have the 5D4 and after a couple of weeks of experimentation I'll say that for sure, the 5D4 with the new customization features is a very capable wildlife camera but today I went out birding and picked up my 7D2 for the crop factor. Overall these are very nice choices to have. Enjoy.

Nice. I have both the 7DII and 5d4.

In Australia they are 2000 and 5000 dollars new. The 5D4 is better, but I'm not sure it's 3 grand better. I think the 7DII is the best value Canon camera on the market for what you get.

So far so good I have not had many issues. I had a bit of AF issues but I see there is a fix so I am downloading the firmware update for the 7D MII hope that will fix my issue. I thought it was me with my full gear on my back causing me to shake ultimately giving the camera the issue of focusing around my moving.
