I fielded a question late last night, and it got me curious. An old friend asked me to compare the FE28 and 24 1.8 after we had already decided he would rather have the FE28 over the Sigma 30C.

I know the FE28 is something of a favorite on this board, but how does the 24 1.8 stack up to it? Using it on an A7 isn't a factor in this buying decision.

From blogs and sample images, the 24 1.8 produces images very similar to my 24ZA.

I had the Zony 24 for short time, its a excellent lens. but I found it to pricey to be crop only lens, returned it to get the Batis 25.

I haven't really used FE28 yet... but I did handle one, Zony 24 has much better build quality then FE28.

Your title says Batis 25 but your question says FE28. What lens are you trying to compare?

Sorry I wasn't more clear on this.

My friend wanted my opinion on FE 28 vs Zony 24 1.8. Those opinions are out there, and I sent him links to those opinions.

The 24 1.8 vs Batis 25 was for my own curiosity. If the two were pretty close in IQ on a crop sensor, then it seems that the deal he found for $550 on the Zony would be a strong value.

I told my friend, that just as an educated guess, the Zony 24 1.8 and the Zony 24 f2 SSM probably offer very similar IQ. And if that, indeed, is the case then the 24 1.8 will be a lens he really, really likes.

that is a good value, if he has no interest in full frame then Zony 24 is good.

Yep that's a good price. When I was looking to buy a a6300 I was seriously considering the zony 24. It's a great looking lens. My dilemma was that the alternative was full frame so could be used on both my cameras but if your friend is only using the crop camera I would go for the 24 1.8
