Again, someone who has never owned one, giving opinion with no first hand knowledge. Oh, but wait! If it's on the internet, it must be true!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah...so people should not pass on information that is well documented if you don't own the product? There are a couple others in this thread stating the 6D off-center focusing is not good, yet you're fixated on me. lol.

It's ok. Even with what I believe to be true, I'm still trying to buy a 6D.

More regurgitated nonsense once again. There are countless posts here showing just how 'poor' the 6D is for moving objects. Those that own the 6D know that the focus system bashing is simply diatribe.

I have great success with my 1D4 at air shows. But when I shot with my 6D in AI Servo mode & center point I got lots of oof images.
I don't want to blame the camera, maybe I was doing some thing wrong. -?

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

I'll disagree. I've read a lot of articles that prove the outer focus points are terrible. As I first stated though, center point is fantastic for moving subjects.

I love the 'well documented' part.

Yeah...i believe what i've read and watched. Good thing when I get mine, I don't really need to worry about it since I don't shoot moving subjects.

I've owned this body for a few years now and can tell you that the outer points are lacking, but I deal with it.
$1,200 was all I had at the time and moving from a T1i it was a huge upgrade. I do not regret it one bit. Fabulous camera.

That being said, the AF on my 7D2 (and the 5D3 which I have limited experience with) both kick it's ass.
Lot of 5D3's getting dumped now. If you can save another $500-800 you might consider a slightly used one. Jake has one for sale here right now with grip and L-brackets for a steal and there will be many more posted soon I'm sure.

I have owned the 6D for a while now and it is my favorite camera so far. While some people here expound on the lack of this or shortfall of that, I have found that ALL cameras lack in one way or another. Anyone using any camera learns to deal with what is lacking and work with what is available.

That said, what no one has mentioned here is that there is more to a camera body than its AF point abilities. Ergonomics play a very important role in whether a camera will fit you or not. By renting the system you will have the opportunity to feel how the camera fits in with your style of shooting and if any discrepancies can be overlooked or dealt with.

You will also have the chance to compare the benefits of a full frame camera against what you have done in the past to see, in a real world environment, if the benefits outweigh the cost. I know many photographers who have left full frame cameras behind because their benefits just were not there for them. Many of these people have left dSLR cameras all together for mirrorless, so don't let all this rigamarole about AF points, FF vs CF, low light benefits, etc. sway you from making your own, qualified and empirical decision after you have used it on your own.

Exactly! All cameras have strengths and weaknesses. As an amateur, better IQ has to be balanced against price and handling. Having said that, the first time I used my moms DSLR was the last time I used a point and shoot. By renting, I get to try out a FF and decide what makes me happy.

Quick update. I rented the 6D and really liked it. The handling wasn't that much different than my 70D (except the placement of the magnifying button, which was kind of weird). I did just use the center AF point and back button focus, so I had no problems with AF.

It may be a quirk of LR or the 6D RAW files, but I noticed I could recover highlights better than with the 70D. (I was trying to expose to the right, but not so far as to blow the highlights).

One thing I didn't think about was that the 6D takes the TC-80N3 remote, not the RS-60E3. Oops.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Articles? What articles? What publication are these mythical articles from and where can I read them?

Well, you know. Most of the "well documented" is from people who have never owned one. Opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one.
