one of the main complaints against MFTis its a small sensor and full frame is better as you can crop more , WELL here's the proof of the pudding a full sized image from yesterdays burst followed by a very large crop from the same photo ,and if you look closely enough you can even make out the whiskers on the rat . think I have found my niche .

Great pics........ rented a OM-1 ii with 100-400 a couple of weeks ago to try it out. Once I figured out the settings on the menu I was liking the setup. Downside was low light performance. Still considering this setup. Your pics here and on Flickr a selling point.

the 100-400 is a f6.3 lens and although it gives the reach it also needs the light randy ... I realised after a few weeks of ownership that there were two ways to go either the two Olympus MFT pro lenses i.e the 300mm f4 or 40-150 either with a 1.4 tc the only trouble being that here in the u.k that would be a expensive option .
I then found out that the MKii with firmware update will happily take the older four thirds lenses via a MMF-3 adaptor with no lack of functionality I have now purchased a adaptor , a 50-200SWD f2.8 and a 12-60mm f2.8and a EC.1.4TC the whole lot came to sub £500 I. I believe the best retailer for these stateside is KEH ..
fitting the t.c meant a touch of MA but thats dead easy to do .

Thanks, I will take a look at that lens. It certainly produces a sharp image. Yes 300 F4 is probably out of my range too. Also am going to look at Fuji XT3 with 100-400 before I move forward. Have sold all my Canon lens except 100-400 ii. Very frustrated with Canon right now with no roadmap for 7Dii series.

I can fully understand that both canon and Nikon have seen that DSLR have reached the end of what i# possible , even mega mp sensors bring there own problems except for a few that need them or do they .
The future is mirrorless ,I tried the canon full frames 1D series , then as old age got its grip on me I sold them , changed to eos.m but that meant still using heavy lenses for wildlife , then last year switched to Panasonic with the 100-400 lens but found it lacking for b.i.f most of the time . So changed back to Nikon for six months but keeping up with developments I realised the Olympus firmware updates had changed the playing field .plus a heart attack in the summer meant I had to reduce carried weight .
I’m more than happy with my mkii I run it with the EVF live all the time hence no black outs when tracking b.i.f ,really looking forward to the winter season now

" then as old age got its grip on me" can relate to that. After back surgery 3 years ago i would like to loose some camera weight. Hence the reason for looking at Olympus. The Canon system gets heavy on those long hiking days even with using the Cotton Carrier. Attached a couple of pic's i took with the Olympus. The first was it early morning light. The second was in shadow. Could have probably cleaned up 2nd a little more if ran though DXO Photolab. Looked at a Fuji XT3 tonight. Nice camera, like the fit into my hand. Not much weight saving over Canon setup but want to give a try. Full frame at this point will probably pass. But after looking at your pic's on Flickr the Olympus may be hard to beat.

Look not only at the available cameras but at the lens range ,especially if doing wildlife . One of my options was a Sony A9 plus 200-600 lens ,but the all up weight was virtually the same as any canikon options .

The other thing I note is that you loaned the Olympus to try out , I surmise that it may not have been firmware updated , or set up to your own personal needs . I have made a lot of changes to how mine operates that suit my style/way of doing things .. the latest being to the switch just above the control pad so mode 1 is single point AF and mode 2 is multi point for B.i.F . Easy to change now without removing my eye from the viewfinder
