I happen to own the Panny 42.5 F/1.7 OIS, the Oly 45 F/1.8, and the Oly Pro 45 F/1.2.

My order of prefernce is:
1. Oly Pro
2. Panny F/1.7
3. Oly F/1.8

So, if you are looking for a slightly slower +/- 45, I'd suggest you go with the Panny, unless you prefer the looks and slightly smaller size of the Oly. There is not much in it between the two, but personally I prefer the rendering of the Panny.

If you do go for the Panny, don't forget to switch IS to lens is first for this lens - you cannot switch it off.

HTH, kind regards, Wim

I cannot compare the Oly 45mm F1.8 to the other lenses because it is the only one I have. I like this lens on my EM5 ll. It makes a nice compact kit. I am also happy with the results and it is the least expensive of all. The only complaint I have is it did not come with a lens hood. But you can buy one although it will add to the low cost of the lens.

Cheers Paul , after posting this request and much shall I shan’t I today I realised that I had tucked away in a drawer a Panasonic 12-60 mm lens which of course covers the range of this .
. So now lens acquisitions on hold till funds stretch to pro lenses or a bargain comes my way . .
To much on my mind lately

Eh! Cut it out! This is getting tooooo much to bear :p

Fantastic photos. Love the details you're capturing with this combination.

How do you find the focus on say the cormorant?
My EM5II and any lense often has trouble focusing on such subjects. Very annoying.
I'm referring to static, not birds in flight.

Love these photos. Keep them coming.

I’ll take that as a compliment Richard , I simply cannot fault the A.F it’s lightning fast ,any mistakes have been down to my user error , I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t understand half the stuff I’m doing with it .. not even totally sure I have it set up properly but it’s turning out some stupendous images .
Just had notification of a pic of mine that I took on the 2nd sept has a half page spread in the north wales daily post .. only a shot of a seagull inflight .. but take into consideration that was the second time out with the camera and it gives me a warm glow .. will add the pic in a bit when I get back on my I.mac

Thanks, and yes a BIG compliment.

One of the problems with Web stuff is one never really knows if an image is just a tad off or it's excellent in the real, but gets messed with in uploading.
Your images have, to me, demonstrated amply the ability of the lens and camera that also needs an operator. The three are intrinsic.
So I can rest easy knowing it does work well as a combination.

Also I noted your backgrounds are how I like (am used to with 40-150mm 2.8 & TC1.4) in the butterfly and flower shots.

Must have been a good feeling to see that image published. Well done.

No problem Richard ,the only big wildlife lens I have at the moment is the Panasonic 100-400 which appears to work well with the camera . I would love the 45-150 2.8 and the 300mm f4 but don’t think it’s financially possible before the grim reaper comes for me .. .

All my photos are on Flickr under “ blackfox wildlife photography “ if you have access there’s around 7K+ images on there with over 8 million views from a variety of cameras / lenses/ makes I never hide EXIF data either so a fair reference library.

Thanks for the link.
Impressive photography.

The 40-150 2.8 is very nice. It sits permanently on an EM5II with the TC.
I'd love the 300 pro but know there's too many times I need to back off quickly so that is a serious consideration.
Not to mention the cost. That's really a huge deciding factor.:-)
