Just finished up a season on the katmai Coast. Fish runs were poor this year but there was still good bear viewing to be had. Bears were working hard for the fish they got.

Love the bear's focus and intensity. How far away were you?

Drew, like them all. What was the story on the third one? Looks like a stare down. Did she leave or fish with cubs so close to the other bears?

Those two family groups were fascinating to watch. over the course of probably two weeks I watched them fish in proximity multiple times. they were both high ranking females and didn't defer to many other bears. They fished close together with a few squabbles and one of the yearlings actually stole a fish from the mom with the COY's. Just went right in during the normal squabble between mom and cubs over a fish and then got swatted pretty good. The mom with the COY's is a cool customer and didn't get displaced by much.

The bear on the right is just some random bear that didn't stick around very long.
