I'd love an 85 Art, but I don't think I would 1200$ love it.

I just have some hunch that it will be a huge hit. I also think the resale value will hold for a long time... lowest used will be 8-900 area.

Once I get it and it performs like I think it should then I'll hold onto it... if not I'll send it back and pick up a minty used 85 1.2L II.

i know i'll never own any of these lenses...but i like when the new ones come out because it makes the old ones that much closer to me attaining them....you've got the 12-24mm new version...the old II versions is probably like 500-600...the I version will start being around $300...

How is the performance of the 12-24 II? I don't hear many people talking about it.

I put all the MTF of the art primes side by side for a quick comparison. To ME it seems the 85 ART will be their best performer. I've personally own the 24A and 50A now and before owned the 35A and all three are top notch performers and have all shared the same characteristics. The 85 stands out much different than the others. They seem to really be marketing improved bokeh... we shall see.

I originally was anticipating picking up the 85A after release. I sold my 85 F1.8 and 85 F1.4 a while back, kept my Tamron 90 F2.8 VC (macro) as it pulls triple duties and does everything. Ultimately I've learned to live without faster than F2.8 on an 85mm lately the past year. So while I wanted the 85A, I actually think I'll just watch and see what happens for now. I'm far more interested in Tamron's 115mm F1.4 VC. If I'm going to pay the money, I want the features. Tamron seems to keep pumping out weather sealed, stabilized, fast primes that are sharp and awesome. I'd rather have 115 F1.4 VC than 135L and more than 85A I think. Time will tell.

Very best,

Yea that's a monster. It's as big as a 24-70 with lens hood nearly it seems. Makes sense, with that lens thread diameter.

Too big in my opinion for just an 85mm without stabilization.

Very best,

after second thought... I'm thinking of cancelling my 85 art. The size is just something crazy to grasp right now. I'm tired of having nothing but large glass AND it with the thought of the 5D4 dpaf doing video the tamron 85 is a very lightweight option w/ VC that I already know works great since I have mostly tamron glass.

Decisions decisions... it's only 2/3 stop difference but gains VC. and at a much better price to boot.

Im no expert at reading these charts but I don't think I've ever seen such a constantly graded line. Is it unheard of?

I'm acully quite excited about this despite the fact that a) I've exhausted my camera spend for a while already and b) it looks too heavy for my liking.

I like the lightness of my 85mm 1.8, and I'm not even that bothered about critical sharpness but the bokeh marketing talk and the sharpness implied below has me intrigued.

Impressive that they have managed to keep the weight a secret. Surely everyone knows it's going to be a beast. Are they keeping it quiet just to get everyone talking?

Very nearly as light as the Canon and quite a bit cheaper - if the real world performance is good (as a number of Sigma's lenses certainly are) then this might be quite a money-spinner for Sigma.

Possibly a wake up call for Canon? Maybe not but it would be more choice at least!

Really interested in the 500mm f4 OS Sport. Besides weight, Sigma has not told us how many stops of stabilization the lens has.
Canon has 4 stops, so I hope the Sigma equals it.

Looks like September has become a banner month for new camera & lens announcements. YEA! :-)

According to B&H, it has 4 stop OS.

That. I love my current Sigma 85 f/1.4. I got it for around $600. It is awesome. I cannot imagine the new ART version to be so much better that it would justify double the price. Oh, I still want it, by the way, but not "$1200 want" it.

Ok, thanks.
I checked sigma's site but could not find that spec.
