About the AF, I heard that the 50 ART was faster tho...

I don't think its risk at all. I almost exclusively buy used lenses off here, eBay, or Fred miranda. I have yet to get a "bad copy" of a lens. I think its more user error than manufacturer. If you can find a good price you are happy with, go for it!
