I will be traveling from Washington DC to Toronto in early to mid of Oct 2016.
I may have a day or two to make nearby drives along the stretch on my return.
I was looking for advice on the fall color photo ops on this stretch.
Any inputs will be appreciated.

If you could make your way through Northern Michigan you would be in for a treat! Cross over in Sault St Marie and drive south and then head to Tahquamanon Falls State Park. You'll love it.

Thanks for the info.
Do you suggest anything particular?

Tahquamanon Falls State Park:
41382 West M 123, Paradise, MI 49768

There is an upper and lower falls entry point. If you go there you will see enough colors to fill your desire. :)

When heading back for home you can then take M123 south to I-75 and its all foilage covered roads.
