Is there a particular rain cover you'd recommend for camera and lens?

The ones I've seen look ok but not much use if you shoot with camera in portrait orientation.

I like the Vortex Media Storm Jackets. They weight almost nothing to carry with you, and they're easy to put on and take off. Mine has held up well after many uses. My husband and I were out yesterday and today in the rain with our cameras and EF 400mm f/5.6L's, and they stayed nice and dry.

That looks ideal, thanks.

My father has the Op-tech one. Clear plastic tends to harden becoming brittle, as his has.

I use the Vortex Storm Jackets. I have two of them now. One for smaller lenses and one for big telephotos up to 600mm. I get the "pro" versions because they have an opening with a velcro attachment so it can be mounted easily on a tripod/monopod.

Very best,

Very best,

While I have not used any Vortex rain covers, I must stress the importance of buying a rain cover with adjustable openings for easy access. Good openings are invaluable for working with your camera under a rain cover. Velcro seems to be the most common method of closing openings on rain covers, but I have seen a few that use zippers or drawstrings instead. Keep that in mind if you will be working somewhere where quiet is preferred since Velcro can be loud when opening the rain cover.

How about the Think Tank Hydrophobias? The're a lot more expensive and bulky looking than the OpTech, but I like that they include a strap and a second entry for operating the zoom or focus rings.

When it rains I use the best rain cover available - it's called the pub!

My gear may be weather resistant but I am not:lol:

P.S. Sorry - I couldn't resist.......

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).
