Does it have to be an all in one? The Canon 18-55 STM and 55-250 STM weigh almost nothing, have excellent IS, and will get you much higher quality at a more reasonable price than a single 18-300. 18-55 STM can be had like new out of a kit for $80 or so, and the 55-250 STM refurbed from Canon is $129.

If you have to have an all in one, the Tamron 16-300 seems to be well regarded for what it is, but the cost $599 is more than the two Canon lenses combined, and the weight is almost identical. 539g for the Tamron, 205g and 375g for the two Canons.

If you had the STM version of the 18-135 and did not like it (assuming your dislike had nothing to do with its lack of range to zoom out to 300mm!), then I hardly think getting a consumer lens of the types you suggest will please you.

Hmm. I love my SL1 (did not love my 50D) but maybe you would benefit from an updated camera.

I can't help you with your lens dilemma. The 18-135 STM is excellent on my SL1 as were the other three STM lenses when I owned them.

When I tried the Tamron 16-300 on my 50D I was very very impressed, I thought it was pretty much as good or better than as many other consumer grade lenses with much shorter ranges, and of course going all the way out to 16mm is quite significant in FoV terms, although only 2mm that's a full 11% wider so is pretty noticeable. I think it would make a great travel combo with an SL1/100D for situations where you absolutely needed that range of focal lengths, and did not have the possibility of being able to change lenses. It's a lot of money just for the luxury of not changing lenses though, especially given that you already have the 10-18/18-55/55-250 STM trinity that will get you pretty much the whole of that range, and the 10-18 UWA allows wider than the single lens, which you can fix in post from a single exposure. Cropping from 250 to 300mm FoV in post is not going to generally significantly affect quality.

:-)Thanks for all your response,,, I think Qlayer2 had a great idea,,use what we have and save the $600,,my research showed the Tamron just a Tad bit better than the sigma,,,but we have another idea,,wife and i each have a Canon SL1,,so one of the wide lens on one and the 55-250 STM on the other and still a light weight pkg,! we also each have a Canon 50D and some big glass ??
Thanks Ron

Sounds like you have your solution. so that is great. For the benefit of others, I have the Tamron 16-300, and it has not disappointed in those situations where I want/need to use a single lens. I stop it down a bit to f/8, and get very good results. I use other lenses much more often, but the wide range does pay off often enough to keep it in my bag.
