I'm in the market for another 85mm, but I won't buy it until someone compares it to the Canon 85L and shows me it's better. So I'm waiting for your review Talley!

My best buddy has the 85 1.2 II and it's a really good copy too. I'll be sure to do some samples. To me if the bokeh quality isn't matching I'll buy the 85 1.2 II and not really worry about sharpness... to me it's the overall look. The Canon used is not much more but the Sigma definitely has me interested.

the 85L was the only Lens I was not happy with

I found it inconsistent below F/1.8, focus was tooooooooo Dam slow

the 85 1.8 is lighting fast and NEVER misses a shot at 1.8....NEVER

If the siggy can do this then I will be tempted

But the last siggy 85 1.4 I had was terrible. Inconsistent, had to take 4 and hope one was on the $$$ at 1.4. Useless for me. I use my 135L at 2.0 and get better results and it NEVER misses a shot as well.

would love it if this new siggy works. We Shall See

Nope.

Too many issues with every Sigma Art lens I owned.

I know Sigma's hit or miss reputation, but the Canon 85 1.4 is just so slow. I shoot a lot of small children that move quickly, so I need something that can focus quickly. I know a lot of photographers that love the 35 and 50 ART lenses, but have always been a lover of longer lengths. I have been waiting for the 85 ART. I hope it is amazing, but don't want to buy it until I can see a comparison.

So thank you Talley for offering to post a comparison when you get yours!

Are you referring to the 1.2? If yes, then although slow can't be fairly compared to Sigma as it is 1.2.

Sigma might be sharper but I doubt it will beat Canon for bokeh and focus accuracy. However only time will tell, we have Talley to prove us all wrong (or right) :P

Yes I was referring to the 1.2 and I know it isn't an exact comparison. For families with older kids, the 1.2L is very useful and beautiful! However, for toddlers, it is just hard to wait on the focus and miss that 1/10 second smile. Maybe the 1.2 I tried was exceptionally slow? I only tried it once. I am open to another try.

I voted 'not even interested'. My 85 1.8 is dead accurate on 6D & 1DIV, and works very well as a portraiture or sportraiture (<- I just made that up!) lens.

I agree. But I voted for "this thread bores me" just because.

That was my other choice, but since I was interested enough to post, I figured that wouldn't quite be true. Opera, now that bores me.

Not me!

But if Sigma's new 500 F4 is up to snuff I may well be interested!

I voted not even interested.

I have the current Sigma 85mm f1.4 and focus is spot on without any AMFA. When I got my current 85mm, I figured I would sell it and get the Art if it was better. From the sample photos and previews I seen, the AF is definitely faster and there's less CA but it doesn't seem to be any sharper than the current 85 so I rather keep it. Also the Art is way too big and heavy for my liking.
