Images look good but for me it's nothing worth selling my original Sigma 85mm over.

Im sure it will have reduced CA and improve weather sealing. I usually don't pre-order any lens, but this may be the first. I have never own a prime portrait lens before so I hope this give me a look different than my 70-200 II 2.8 I use for wedding and portraits.

I think you'll gain more from 85mm non art to the art. One of the bigger selling points will be the dock compatibility, a weather sealing gasket at the back, less vignetting, sharper at 1.4... much sharper into the corners and better bokeh. It's a worthy upgrade if you can manage the size/weight increase and cost. Many say the 50mm art wasn't enough to push them over the edge to cash in their non art... but it's all based on what you find acceptable as well. I'm sure if Canon released a 70-200 2.8 IS III and it priced at 2700 that many would say the same comments as you when talking about the version II. I think copy variation is the main issue. For some, they had less than acceptable sharpness wide open and inconsistent AF, so if they get a good copy of the Art then it will feel like a good upgrade. My copy is tack sharp wide open, AF has no issues at all and for a lens like this I don't use it for genres that require speed. For some this is an amazing upgrade or the perfect 85mm lens for them to buy. Although for others, myself included, it's just a heavier version of my current lens with fasted AF. I had two copies both were amazing tack sharp wide open. Really good copies. I won't have access to the non art 85 for a bit and will be able to get ahold of the 85 1.2 II right after halloween... BUT... ZERO sharpening applied to this image. Mild adjustments to the black/white levels only otherwise SOOC and a WB correction.200mm f2 and 85 1.2 is definitely gold standard. 200mm f2 is my dream lens but it's too $$$ for me and not very practical for 12 hrs + weddings.

Any 85mm will look good at f8/f11 On a side note I ordered 2 35mm Sigma art from Amazon with serial numbers 2 digits from each other and they performed the exact same on my 5D3. I am guessing copy variation of any Sigma is dependent on manufacturing date/batch # You wouldn't be able to detect the copy variation and would require the OLAF optical bench like what lensrentals has to determine actual MTF ratings. human eye cannot discern small differences like the MTF machines can. I'm saying this from a real world perspective kind of test. Both lens didn't seem to require much micro adjustment and from pixel peeping I was able to nail the focus I wanted consistently for both lens; same behaviour for both lens within the same serial; I've shot with this lens for over 1.5 years and I know what a nailed focus shot looks like on the Sigma
