Thanks for the great advice Talley. I'll give that a try on my next shoot.

I'm just used to shooting at f2 on my 85l since it's quite a bit sharper than at 1.2, totally forgot about how sharp this lens is at this distance and do.

F1.4 looks great.

Whilst it is the trend at the moment to have razor-thin DOF, there's plenty of reasons to shoot at less than the widest aperture.

Your right. Plenty of other options. Me personally I want perfection across any aperture and the 85A and 200L both deliver this. The 24/35/50 arts also do this very well....

Yeah, but it's such a great tool to direct the viewer's attention. Besides, it great to have a lens that's actually usable WFO, no false advertising here!

Tons of movie/tv productions blow out the background.... just sayin. the 5D4 DPAF and a stabilized lens like a 35 F2 IS will produce some really nice video. The kind I wouldn't mind having :)

Got the lens today and did a quick test. So far I am impressed. I have a few other Sigma Art lenses but I think this one will be special.

I want this lens badly, but I get along just fine with the Bower 85 1.4. Autofocus would be nice though.....

It looks like it performs nicely, and if the 24 1.4 Art is any indication of the performance of this, I would be quite pleased.

Here's a couple "selfies" I took last night because I was in the mood to experiment after wrapping up final exams for my classes. They were both shot at f/5.6 (I believe) but the lens had no real problem focusing in live view mode using the EOS Remote app on my phone. Three flashes (one with a purple gel). Images came out incredibly sharp. Wasn't going to gamble with f/1.4 since I was by myself and splashing myself with corn starch.

looks like the new Canon 85mm f1.4L has a new challenger from Sigma. :-D
