After days of no movement, a brief flurry moved through this morning, including a few golden-crowned kinglets. I don't see them as often as I do the ruby-crowned and they are somewhat a nemesis species for me. Sibley describes them as noticeably smaller than the ruby-crowned and, if it can be believed, I think they are even faster. So, I always take it as a good sign if I get anything close to a good photo of one.

Lovely shots as always! I've seen the ruby crowned a few times but not the golden crowned.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I think they are close to being my favorite bird - probably for all the reasons you mentioned and also because if I don't see them on the one day they are here, I miss them altogether. Great shots of a perpetual motion machine!

Number 2. I've seen 100 Golden-crowned Kinglets before and I never noticed the pinky feet. Love that detail.

Keep 'em flying,

Thank you. It seems that I often see them in the company of ruby-crowns, so look closely; they'd be easy to miss.

Thank you. They could be like the Blackpoll Warblers moving through in the spring. By the time they reach our area they are covering a lot of ground each day, headed north, and if you miss them, you're done for the season.
