Based on what you've said here, they've left it up to your judgment. It also sounds as if they're being coy because they don't know the tolerances of your equipment. I would try to find out what they specifically use to clean equipment in their facility and determine whether or not that's safe for your camera. It would seem that whatever hospitals use to wipe down electronic equipment in ORs should suffice.

They use products based on alcohol and chlorine, which would definitely damage my gear, but after some talks with some of my friends who are doctors we find out today that something like this might be a solution.

General surface and equipment cleaning
Clinell Universal Wipes can be used to disinfect general surfaces and equipment. The following surfaces are examples of use (this is not an exhaustive list):
- Chairs, Desks, Door handles, Mattresses, Worktops, Trolleys, Keyboards & Accessories, Lanyards, Lockers, Toys, Changing mats, Tray tables, Sinks and taps, Light switches, Bedside tables, Walking frames, Wheelchairs, Floors, Shower cubicles, Food trays, Televisions, Phones, Hand rails.

Any thoughts?

Looks like a great product for the OP.

Apart from what you end up using to clean your gear, the client should be impressed if you wear disposable latex gloves.

I was just going to suggest this. If you have a lab coat from your school days it could help as well, or ask them if they have any 'jumpsuit' and had cover gear. Wear pristinely shined shoes. If you look spotless they'll get the impression that you took cleanliness seriously and won't be as nervous about your gear.

You might want to ask your doctor friend about where to source some self-adhesive plastic films that I've seen used on gear in dentists offices (attached to cameras, handles, &c.).

At length, all your gear should be thoroughly cleaned (use a camel brush to remove dust all over and in hard to reach places, clean your glass and filters) then stuffed in ziplock bags in your camera pack.

Instructions were very simple - all gear must be cleaned and disinfect, not sterile..

I use Zeiss lens cleaning wipes available at Walmart and Sam's clubs for a very good price in bulk.
Active ingredient is alcohol. But mostly water, so does not damage plastics etc.

They are IMHO the "handy wipe" for all things electronics, including lenses! (and screens etc)

No idea of they will kill all germs, but it you can't say isopropyl is not a disinfectant.

The OP should get paid well for all this extra work.

Yes. I'm also thinking that if the OP arrives dressed like the mad scientist (coat, gloves, booties, goggles) and the attire is not the usual course of business for the rest of the facility, he'll feel like he showed up a day late to the costume party. ;-)a

You're welcome. I do hope that "etc." doesn't include a cavity search.

Maybe a plastic rain cover for your camera, like Op/Tech or so.

Check with your dentist and see if they will get you a container of Cavi-wipes. It will probably cost you about $15. It is specifically formulated for cleaning equipment, much of which is plastic. This is what dental schools use when documenting procedures on video or stills. Cavi-wipes use ultra pure isopropanol alcohol which dries faster than isopropyl (common in lens wipes) and thus leaves behind little if any residue.

Check http://www.bca.org …cal_photography_tips.html (external link) and scroll down to see what this guy does for working in surgery. Interesting side note is he often uses a 60D because of the tilt screen.

I am also aware that some people have used Clorox Healthcare Hydrogen Peroxide Disinfecting and Cleaning Wipes which is available at some Staples stores. Hydrogen peroxide is relatively safe.

In either case don't use either of these wipes if dripping wet. You only want them to be slightly damp.
