Based on what you've said here, they've left it up to your judgment. It also sounds as if they're being coy because they don't know the tolerances of your equipment. I would try to find out what they specifically use to clean equipment in their facility and determine whether or not that's safe for your camera. It would seem that whatever hospitals use to wipe down electronic equipment in ORs should suffice.
They use products based on alcohol and chlorine, which would definitely damage my gear, but after some talks with some of my friends who are doctors we find out today that something like this might be a solution.
