Spotted Crake (rare in the UK)

This bird is part of the Rail family which says it all to be honest because the Water Rail are also very elusive!. Anyway in the UK the Spotted Crake is a rare bird to see.

Lucky for me it was reported that this chap showed up at a local reserve and has made home there for a few days as a food stop before carrying on to where ever it is going in the country(though he might stay ?)

Good for you, Alan! You not only got a rarity, but captured it under great light and conditions. Rails are such nifty birds, but as you say, tough to get a good look at most times. This summer I heard a pair of Virginia Rails in the cattails off the end of our dock, but they could not be enticed to show themselves.
