I like everything about the background except the screening - it is too sharp and distracting. If the screening were further back, there would be a possibility for gettting it out of focus. The subject is well posed, and I like te fact that the eyes are exquisite - very good coloration and detail. Her right eye only needs one catch light, so you could Photoshop out the second light (down in the corner).

The compostion is good, and the color balance seems to be good.

Thanks once again, Bob. I just couldn't get Oreo to understand he had to come closer to me to blur the background better, and I must say he was more distracted by what was out there than we would be. He has no front claws, but always brings home a field mouse for us for dinner, and he is the lord over our 3 dogs. There are some more pix of "the session" here: http://www.basssick.com/images/oreo031206/ (external link). Thanks.

A nice puss and good photo: you have done well with a difficult subject - a mainly black cat - and you have avoided burning out the white areas.
