Looking for some comments on my first attempt at senior photos of my son. The first shot was outdoors with a Flashpoint XPLOR 600 in a Cheatahstand Rice Bowl 120. (Was trying to get the golden hour, but missed it by about 10 minutes.) The second shot was in my makeshift home studio with the XPLOR 600 with 22" beauty dish attached. How did I do?

C&C welcome.

I think these are pretty good.

Picture one the railing looks kind of old and dirty and as such is a bit distracting. Might crop some off the right as well. Picture two, I like the light but the wrinkled background is not good and it seems a little 'crotchy'. Shooting angle could be better.

He's a good looking guy.

Agreed, the railing in pic one does look a lil more than "weathered", but not totally unacceptable, IMO. Maybe a lil tighter crop would do the trick. Lighting, color, etc, all look great. Second shot, again, agree with saea501, the pose just doesn't cut it. A "crotch" shot is never acceptable when shooting "young" people, lol. However, the "overhead" angle is great, again IMO. Give it another try, having him either turn his legs 45* or try putting the knees together. Again, I think you nailed all other aspects. Just my 2cents. Keep shooting!

Picture one: The shirt is a mess. The cuffs aren't buttoned but not rolled either. Maybe he wears his sleeves this way but for a picture IMO it doesn't work. Tidyness needs to be there. The railing doesn't bother me at all, it is what it is. Could be a tad cooler as he's slightly yellowish.

Picture two: Doesn't work for me. You're to high over him making him in a awkward position and as other have mentioned, crotch shot.

For guys, chin down is good, not a lot but somewhat to show a position of power and confidence.
