I currently have a 50D and GoPro Hero2. I'm really wanting to start doing video, mostly for YouTube. After all my research this is what I've come up with. Your input would be appreciated.

Mostly filming vlogging type stuff, my kids, short documentary films, product reviews and how to videos, nature/wildlife, and if I"m feeling really creative and froggy short fan films based on sci-fi and comic characters.

I plan on purchasing an 80D, with a canon EF-S 24mm 2.8($150),Rode VideoMicro compact ($60), and Sony MDR 7507 headphones($80). This combo will get me started in video, but mostly this combo fits my tight budget.

Shortly the initial set up I'd like to purchase Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 ART, and the GoPro Hero5. I feel this will meet the majority of my needs. The micro mic will be upgraded at some point.

Down the road I want to add some distance to the mix to help with the wildlife stuff just not really sure what yet.

So for those that have used the 80D or filmed these types of things will this set up work.

The 80D is one of the vloggers tool of choice. After you process the video you'd be surprised how well it performs for 1080 vid. The key point is DPAF performance in locking in the focus. The 80D is very impressive. This is where IQ is meaningless if the focus is OFF.

The cheap 24mm STM is silly sharp and extremely accurate.I use that for family documentation. Canon needs to build more STM lenses as the canon crop sensor STM selection is LAME. I have to remove my 18-35mm sigma off my signature as the focus is so bad I just returned it!!!

The rode mic works great. I have both shotgun and stereo. For tripod stuff I put the mic on a boom infront of the lens. This is where I'll use my L lenses and the boomed mic removes the AF bzzzz bzzzzz sound from the video.

I like to do voluntary video stuff for my kid's elementary school.

Thanks for the info. I've heard really good things about the 24mm for the price I figure it's a no brainer. I'll look at the sigma a little more especially sense it's a lot bigger purchase. I'm a little tempted to just roll with the 24mm for a while forcing me to be more creative to get the shot I'm looking for in hopes of helping my develop my skills more vs just running out and buying another tool. Not to mention the money that is being saved can go toward more adventures.

I'm not getting paid for anything it's strictly hobby and fun. And this is one reason budget is a lot.

This guy is a Vlogger, take a look at his vids and the equip he uses. If money is tight, every penny/dime counts.

As long as you are doing work from a tripod, then the 24 will be fine. If you are hand holding anything, then you will be very disappointed using a lens w/o IS. Not sure what your space looks like, if you have the working distance to use a 40 pancake, I'd get that to minimize perspective distortion.

I was just looking at the 40mm actually.

I do plan on using a tripod the majority of the time. I had even considered some type of steady cam mount for more of the stuff requiring panning and the type shots that require me to be on the move.

I've watched a lot of this guys videos. By the time I'm done I think we would have very similar set ups. I already have the Joby gorilla pod he uses. I use it for my GoPro Hero2(just broke the case so now it's all hand held in no case).

I like this set up for it's simplicity.
