Hello all,

I really wanted to sell my 300/2.8 II locally, but I despite some interest I keep getting "window shoppers." Anyhow, I have several offers from non-locals (well established members over on FM) that are interested if I'd ship. Therefore...

What service would you recommend? I was thinking UPS would be best. My lens does NOT include a hard case. How should I wrap this lens to ensure it does not get damaged?

And lastly, about how much would you estimate a lens that is between $3500 and $4000 would cost in shipping, with full insurance and a signature required?

Any other thoughts, I"m all ears.

I shipped a 300 2.8 v1 before that sold for 3875. total price on the shipping was something like 100-110. I shipped it USPS priority though. I like Fedex... UPS works good too.

I use UPS for the high dollar stuff. With insurance around $100.00 sounds right. Might be less without hard case taking up weight, but size is a bigger factor.
(EF 500mm f/4L IS to Australia was near double that, but in U.S. I think about $100.00)

How to Warp:
Double box it! (since you have no case)

Wrap in a soft bag, then cover in bubble wrap. Keep bubble wrap between the hood and body. Wrap anything else separately. Fit into a fairly snug fitting box. If there is any looseness, fill voids with peanuts.

In a larger box put some packing peanuts at the bottom, then drop in the smaller box, and surround with peanuts.

When it's all done and sealed up, there should be no shifting with a light shake.

So far I have shipped Two 500mm, (one with no hard case) many smaller lenses like 400mm prime, 100-400mm, etc, and even a SIGMONSTER 300-800mm (no hard case for that either)
So far all has gone well. (knocks wood)

My Canon 500mm and the SIGMONSTER also went overseas. In this case they were both USPS/international
