Canon EOS M5- Share your pictures, thoughts, loves, concerns....

That's fair, I haven't used my M with my EF lenses much at all, I have a full frame body.

That said, not only am I looking at upgrading to the 5D Mark IV, but the M5 still calls to me. I wish the EF-M lens selection were better though, which is the one hurdle I'm trying to address. That, or would I really just rather have a good compact like the Panasonic LX100. The new EF-M macro, if at 50mm with a moderately fast aperture, would probably join my collection. Unfortunately it's a slow 28mm. The 11-22 probably still will if I get an M5, but I'd love to see a faster midzoom. Something similar to the 17-55 2.8 IS they make for EF-S.

LOL. No bueno.

Not that the lens isn't great it just once again defeats the purpose of casual compact camera. I'm prolly going to get the 18-150 for the M5 assuming I like how the camera feels in my hands. If I wanted to use my EF or EF-S lenses I'd just use my dSLR and lug the bigger gear around. But I want something smaller and more practical for everyday photography.

I've never used it as pictured, one of my friends just wanted to see how ridiculous it looks.

I don't see how people can say any camera is 'balanced' with large lenses like that. Beyond a certain point the camera is attached to the lens, not the other way around. It is nice to have a nice grip on the camera to steady it though. Plus making the entire setup lighter with a lighter body counts for something too.

My 7 year old boy was out of school today, so we went and had some fun at the aviary. I brought the the M3 and M55-200, and rented a 70-200L 2.8 just for fun. (The rental shop is only 2 miles away from the aviary, VERY convenient!)

Took some photos from approximately the same location (the birds sometimes moved during lens swap.) Photos set at Aperture priority (6.3) and 200mm. The M55-200 does a good job...but the L kills it (no surprise there!). The L feels like it is truly just the lens with an attachment on it, where as the M is a compact camera system (again, no surprise!) Not super scientific, but an entertaining "on-the-fly" mostly A-B comparison.

It was a fun way to spend a few hours with the boy, who spent a lot of time capturing video of ducks...

So get the camera and a longer lens and you can find White Faced IBIS at a lot of wildlife refuges.

Yeah, sorry I digressed...the point I was trying to make is that the M3 doesn't do the best when focusing with EF-L lenses, the M series sensors do a great job capturing images from L glass when focused properly, and (finally!) that the M5 is RUMORED to do a much better job focusing the big EF glass...which is of huge interest to me!

Can finally see light at end of the M5 waiting tunnel. Less than two weeks now, yeah!
Should have the EOS 400/5.6 by end of next week. That is the lens I hope to marry to the M5
for a lightweight wildlife rig.

The Canon m-mount macro is interesting if for no other reason than the built in macro-lights.

My M5 is also on pre-order, and I can't wait! I have a 300 f4L due to arrive soon for my flying friends (birds and planes) pix. The Tamron looks like a great lens...I've been using the canon 18-135 stm with my M3, would love to hear how the Tamron works out for you.

Honestly the Tam 18-200mm is not on the high priority list-the 400/5.6 is. We've also pre-ordered 2 x OMD M1 mk IIs and have to get them outfitted with grips and extra batteries. All
good things in time.
