Rose you are too kind.
Interestingly I shot the juvenile BE with the M5 + 400/5.6 the immediately switched to the 1DXii + 1.4TC + 500ISii, the
M5 did better!
What does it show? Either of two things. The M5 has a wonderful cropability, or the 1DXii is so heavy that I couldn't over come
rig shake with shutter speed. Here's the one from the much heavier/pricier rig, you be the judge:
Shot within 3 min's of the shot with the M5

IMAGE: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/560/31872158824_aa35aa8aaa_c.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/Qyr9pJ (external link) You're interupting my lunch (external link) by MedicineMan4040 (external link), on Flickr

All that said here's one same day with the kit lens:

IMAGE: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/267/32678188616_c5bd631328_b.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/RMEfZ7 (external link) Screwed out of a job (external link) by MedicineMan4040 (external link), on Flickr

Now I'm not slamming the 1DXii. Earlier that day I shot White-throated Sparrows from the car and nothing came out sharp. Inside the car was approx 74F and outside where the sparrows were was approx 39F, so environmental heat/cold shear took its toll. Bottom line? It's not always the heavy expensive kit that gives the
best image :)

I went with the Tamron 18 - 200 for the extra reach and cost. Haven't gone wrong.

I'm actually surprised Canon never sell something like the M5 + 22mm and brand it as an 'enthusiast kit or something like that.

I'm thinking about keeping my 100-400MKII and stick an M5 on it for some easier birding.

How well does it keep up with tracking?

Well, I think I owe this group a "thank you". Your positive reviews convinced me to grab an M5/18-150/adapter kit to use as a portable rig when the big stuff stays home. (Short business trips, mountain biking and climbing, family outings, etc.)

I plan to add an 11-22 and possibly a 22 f/2 as well. I'm going to be interested in comparing the M5 to my 7d2...not sure if it will be a replacement or addition, in that regard. (I'll be upgrading the 5d3 to a 5d4 soon, too.)

I'll try to post a few pics to the thread once I get it!

Well, I'm finally joining the club. My biggest concern is the low light shutter delay some people report. We'll see how big of an issue that is, as I've jumped on the CPW deal with the 18-150 and adapter.

Also went ahead and finally grabbed an 11-22 and a bag to hold all that with my M, 22, and 18-55. Going to send my M off for IR conversion at some point soonish.

Seems like you and I are/were in the same boat, roughly. I'm still planning to upgrade my 5D3 to a 5D4 at some point as well!

Same boat indeed...the CPW deal made me jump too. Where did you get your 11-22? Not seeing many deals there, but adorama has some bundles at least.

Just bought it (and a new bag that could hold both cameras and those few lenses, memory card, and spare battery) off Amazon. 5% back with my card, and you know, Amazon is easy :)

I figured in for a penny, in for a pound.

I could see a 50 1.8 STM in my future, being permanently mounted to the spare EF adapter that I'll have when the new kit arrives. Fortunately the adapter I already have from when I bought my M kit does have the tripod foot.

Went hiking today. Great camera for rough slick terrain when you don't want a lot of weight.
Do wish it had some weather proofing but I carried a dry-bag in case of heavy rain.
