There is no way to turn off the EVF while shooting video.... times the senor thinks its your eye when you;re trying to touch focus...... could be annoying to film makers!

Whilst mumbling around the menu's, I found a fix for this one:
Under menu spanner setup1\display settings\display control if you set to manual, you can then set the manual display option to either Viewfinder or screen.
setting to screen seems to disable the viewfinder for both stills & video.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

UPS man came today and dropped of the Rokinon 8mm f2.8 fisheye and 12mm f2.

Both seem to be well built, couple of quick snaps around the house and they seem to be nice and sharp. Focus peaking on the M5 rocks!

Of course it supposed to be raining for the next few days here in the Pacific NorthWet... so may be a little while before I can give them a proper workout.

I haven't tried this yet, although it's a feature I was looking forward to, as my eyes aren't 100%. Do you use it in live view only?
Thanks

Pokes head up. Not had much time to do much with the M5 but heres yesterdays coffee. And added a heavily croped Blackbird. 100mm Macro not the normal birding lens :) but is quite a nice combo with the adaptor.

I found a bug............... its its annoying!

Face tracking works greats! But as soon as i turn off IS it stop the tracking, or barely hits...... i was shooting really close ups (videos) in a well lit place and the face tracking wasn't "tracking" or was locking and then losing track..... :-( only works great IS is enabled... :-(

It works both live view as well as in the viewfinder.

I was going to trade my 650d for the m5 but some reviews and user reviews state the shutter lag is unacceptable in this model and cause for concern.
In particular when using flash and/or in low light conditions when the shutter is fully pressed it can take several seconds to fire from shutter press to picture taken.
Am wondering if the m6 will also share this trait.
have also read canon are aware of the user concerns and are investigating the matter.
Any views?

From my usage, it's not shutter lag as much as focus-lag that is a little annoying.

Having said that, I'd much rather carry around the M5 and 18-150mm and miss the occasional shot, than leave the 1D3 and 70-200mm at home, and miss all of them!
What does the 650D not do that you're looking to change?

so far I'm REALLY liking this camera... only issue i have is shooting any wider than 1.8 in BRIGHT sunlight is limiting with the 1/4000th, but at least 1.8 works... 1.2 and 1.4 in bright sunlight is def. not recommended at 1/4000th. lol

Apologies if this has been asked/answered elsewhere but I can't find it in the thread.
I have an 80D and allegedly the M5 is "an 80D without the mirror", however, having tried to find the appropriate info the in the (very poor IMHO) M5 user manual I have failed in my quest.
On the 80D you can over-ride the automatic minumum shutter speed the camera selects when in an auto mode and make it "faster" or "slower". You can also just set a minimum fixed shutter speed to never go below.

Does the M5 have this extremely useful feature? I have a suspicion that it doesn't, but I'm sure one of you can confirm one way or the other. I am tempted by an M5, but for me this is a "must have".

For clarity of what I am refering to, the page from the 80D showing the function is below.
