First shot via M5 + 400/5.6
Of course new camera means completely socked in, rain, total cloud cover=a great opportunity
to see high ISO does.
My fantasy with the M5 and the 400/5.6 was lightweight wildlife rig. I think it will be fantastic. AF is
fast though the focus square comes in only one size far as I can tell. 7fps hums along, buffer is plent especially if you pulse in 3-4's.
BIF/sports will have to be reported by others, won't be until March when I get near a BIF location :(

Great shot, thanks for sharing! That image looks very good for iso 3200. I am very impatiently waiting for canon to ship more of these out to the dealers, so I can finally get mine!

If I take enough pictures, at least one of them should turn out...maybe

I think you will like it for size reasons alone. Being able to put any EF glass on is huge. The AF system is very simple. It is not in the league of the Sony a6300 or 6500 so those expecting a BIF machine will be disappointed but BIF'ing large birds in panning shots (eagles, egrets, the like) should be no problem--I haven't yet but I also shoot GX8 and PL 100-400 and I've done many with that rig that also has pitiful AF-tracking compared to something like a 7Dii.

The touch screen on the M5 is a marvel. When I look at the touch screen on the 1DXii I have to think why Canon bothered. I don't use touch much but surely the M5's touch is the best on the market right now.

So I wanted it for use with the 400/5.6. I am not disappointed, I really don't know where you can get that sensor size and that focal length. We shoot mFT as alluded to above and yes we have longer focal length effective but with mFT we are always light and crop challenged :) Still love the mFT system though (currently waiting on 2 OMD M1 mk ii's pre-ordered, but the M5 + 400/5.6 was my goal.

Still waiting on my replacement but in the brief time I had the one am pretty sure MM that there was an option to set the focus box to small instead of normal might be wrong on that though and may be thinking normal was small and there was a larger option.

Another thing that I thought I thought I noticed and want to check once I get the replacement is I that I had the 400 F5.6 mounted for a very quick try but in that try I thought I could go lower with shutter speed with the combination than I could with my 7D2 and still get a sharp picture. Wierd I know. Maybe its the balance is different or maybe the high ISO was not really showing it or just wishfull thinking. Have you noticed anything like that?

One more question Have you strapped the DO onto it yet? Go on you know you want to.

Phil I've only tried the 400/5.6 outside.
Tinkered a bit with m-mount lenses in the house--all seem nice and light.
Will try the 400DOii and other white whales when the weather clears but sadly
the next 9 of 10 days are rain...just the way it is living in a rain forest :)

Yes to finding adjustment for focus square size....but did you notice that when you make
the square small you loose servo. It really is a simplistic AF system, but sometimes simple
is good.

Back to the DOii. I'll give it a go for fun but the rig is already set in my mind- M5+400/5.6 :)

I have joined the M5 club ..... it's charged and just waiting for daylight and the adapter. Anything I shoot initially will be with the kit 15 - 45 f3.5 6.3. Adapter not in kit in NZ. Need to learn how to focus with it first!

Only disappointment so far is that Lightroom doesn't recognise it to import the files. Downloading DPP meantime

Rose if you are using LRcc or PScc (cloud) then it just recently updated and does read M5.

No I'm using standalone LR 6 ..... not sure I want to get into ongoing cost, although it is cheap I don't know if I could afford it once I retire. Have imported them using EOS utility and converted to jpeg via DPP, just waiting on Flickr now :-)

Off out now to try some landscape at the beach or something ... will post more later. A bit of learning for me with the focus I think .... more reading and playing!

Hey they're nice and sharp on the birds - nice bokeh too. I imagine that lens quite nice and light on the M5? Been wondering about it for ages, but would quite like a faster longer lens .... have the Tamron 70 - 300 not the fast model, and I can't always ho;d it still.
