It's the only EF-M lens I have but it depends on what I'm doing really, some weeks not at all, other weeks quite a bit.
Main camera for kids soccer at present is the 1D3/100-400, and any time I'm not in the mood to lug that around the M5/18-150 gets the nod.
My eldest son is grading for a higher belt in karate tomorrow & the lighting is pretty dim so I'll probably take the 70-200 2.8 rather than the 18-150..

Yes, I would think the 1D3 would be quite a bit better for sports. Much quicker from shot to shot than the M5. My D750 FF Nikon "wakes up" instantly and even with picture review on it is much faster and the 750 is not a sports camera like the 1D3. I have the "picture review" off on the M5 and it runs much smoother and quicker from shot to shot and really you don't need it because with live view, even when using the EVF, you get what you see.

you're welcome to borrow mine if you want to take one for a test drive...

Thanks but I think you're in Auckland? I'm in Hastings .... if I get up there sometime we could maybe meet and swap lenses for a play. I've really got b the range covered now. .. so no need for the 18 -150 except as a single holiday lens maybe, but the kit is so light can easily carry it all. I have the 15 - 45, the 22, and the 55 - 200. I also use other lenses with adapter ..

Thanks again.

Went to Petone Friday, as my sister was unwell in hospital ... a walk on the beach. The Petone wharf has earthquake damage, so is closed. There's a petition to save it. I believe this is one of the older wharves in NZ - must Google.

Ms Rosey,
How does your live view focus on your 70D compare to the M5 focusing? Are they about the same?

Hmm I don't often use live view focus ... and haven't been using the 70D much at all as have lent it to a friend to try fish eye shooting.

I did use M5 recently for some flower shots and don't recall any issues though. I'll try make sure I do some shots using live view after I finish my night shifts and feel alive again.

Well you live in the land of earthquakes. When I was there I'd hoped to hike the Milford Tack but it was close due to earthquake damage.

The only reason I ask is that both cameras are supposed to have the same "phase detect" on sensor focusing. Just wondering if the M5 is the same or better. On the M5 you will be using the sensor to focus with the view finder or the LCD screen wheras the 70D uses the sensor to focus only in live view.

The m5 is better. The 70D has a weird 1st gen version of DPAF, the m5 has the newer 2nd gen DPAF.
