CanonRumors posted about an exciting EF-M patent! It's for a new version of the 15-45mm lens with a MUCH better aperture of f/1.8-3.5. I got the original lens as a kit with my M5 but have honestly never used it do to the very narrow aperture at the long end. If this lens was released it would really make any M camera an amazing one lens option for travel.

This is the lens (ef-m 18-150mm) I use most.

No problem! It sort of relates to what all of you were discussing before about support for the M5. I don't think Canon have really abandoned the M5 but if other rumors are true, they're probably hard at work on the FF Mirrorless which is meant to be releasing next year.

As a prime lover I mostly just use the 22mm f/2 as it's amazingly sharp and has good FL for general shooting. I'm tempted to try buy the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC Art lens for the wider aperture but since starting my new job I've hardly been using any of my cameras so can't justify the cost. How about you?

I'd buy that ... my M5 came with current 15 -45 which I used to use a lot but find it soft.

I also use the 22mm f/2 a lot, but also have fads of using EF lenses with the adaptor, and other older primes with adapters. I'm tempted by the 18 - 150, but would like it to be faster ideally. Christmas club money available soon ... so I'll see ߘ

Actually I don't have the ef-m 22mm yet, but when using the 18-150mm I can have f/3.5 at the 22mm focal length WITH image stabilization. The 18-150mm will also focus as close as 4inches @62mm.

I’m looking at trading in my 6D (with 24-105 and 50 stm and neewer flash) for a smaller setup. I want to be able to not spend extra money but still get 2 bodies (one for me and one for wife, she wants to try out vlogging).

I’m loving the look of the m6(sounds like it’s an M5 with no viewfinder) for me and an m3 for her. Is this something you would do as an owner as an M5? As of right now I can get a view finder free from canon with purchase of the m3.

Thanks for the help

Had a 6D....
Then had a daughter....
Now have an SL2 and Mavic Pro.... Man life changes.
I would encourage you... To just go for it.

I've only used the M5 of Canon's mirrorless ... I couldn't be without a viewfinder. I've red somewhere previously, that while the external viewfinder works well that it's a bit cumbersome. But as I say no personal experience of that.

For me, I find the viewfinder less useful...
I wear graduated lens glasses for shortsightedness & find 9 times out of 10, what I see in the viewfinder is blurry so it doesn't get a lot of use unless I take my glasses off.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I do too - wonder if that's why some of my images are off in focus .... but I calibrated the diopter to assist with that.

I believe the EVF (electronic view finder) uses the image sensor to acquire focus so there shouldn't be a focus issue like there is in an optical VF on a DSLR. In using the EVF, one might use it without glasses so I'm guessing that's why a diopter is available to adjust the image focus ( only in the VF not on the sensor )for your particular eyesight.
You should have the same autofocus mechanism as the LCD screen focus when using the EVF no matter how the diopter is set.

I decided to get the m5 on a whim of ebay tonight. Came with original setup with a 22 stm for 800. I figure if I don't love it I can probably get around what I paid for it. The two lenses I am really wanting are the 18-150 and the 11-22. Anyone got thoughts on these 2 after lots of use?

I've an 18-150mm on my M5 - it isn't the best lens I've ever used, but it isn't the worst either...
Small & light is a good description. :-)
