i wanted to post these a while back but never had the time. i used my 350D and the nifty 50mm 1.8 and tried to stick to manual mode at 1/125 to 1/160 at f/4. tiny bit of noise ninja here and there because i shot at 800 and 1600. c&c are very welcome. thanks!

Some nice shots. 2nd one has ghosting. (Cheap) filter on the lens? Get it off.

Some pretty nice work, here. I worked with Coheed last year on their East Coast tour.

thanks. :) they're not really strict about bringing in cameras here in italy. the only show i went to where they didn't allow cameras was the bright eyes/rilo kiley show last year. all these pics were taken from behind the barrier and i was stuck in one spot.

The lights in the top are seen again in the lower left of the frame.... Happened to me once. Thats when I took my (not so cheap) filter off. ;)

Nice job from the crowd. for most shows here in the States they don't allow professional gear in - meaning detachable lenses. For a few shows they do.. I'll be seeing Coheed next month when they tour with Avenged Sevenfold.

Rene, you don't use UV filters on a regular basis? I was under the impression that you should always have a filter on to protect your glass. Come to think of it, I've noticed flare too every once in a great while.

No filters. Ever. Unless it's neccesary for the shot (ie polarizers or ND).
I will not get into another 'protective filter debate', but decided *for me* this works better. And yes, I have needed some lenses repaired due to 'crowd action' (read: beer in lenses)

thanks :) i think it depends on how big the band is here. i didn't even buy tickets in advance to coheed and cambria. i just showed up early, didn't have to line up, and was right in front for the show. by my estimate, there couldn't have been more than 400 people there for the show. when i went to see the alkaline trio, they had the 3 song rule in play and there were a lot more people and security there. but they're pretty lax here in general. that's why i like watching bands here. it's easy to meet them after too. :)

aaah... now i see it. filters are no good in situations like this. i suppose a lens hood would be the best protection you could have without sacrificing picture quality?

thanks! the other two? well... see... that's the big disadvantage of being stuck in the crowd with a prime lens. i couldn't get decent shots of the others :(
