Is the 6D still the best bang for your buck when it comes to a canon full frame?

I think 5D IV is price/performance about the same now. Of course you pay a lot more for it, but the files coming off that sensor are spectacular.

Do you need a camera now?

Here's a thread in another sub forum you should read through.

https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=1467420&page=1

Most everyone has different criteria for evaluation so you should probably list what you are hoping to get out of a camera.

I currently shoot with a 7d mark ii mainly sports/wildlife but have now been getting more and more inquires to do Senior photo's and family shots so I'm thinking now is the time to add a full frame to the kit. My biggest reason for wanting the full frame is IQ. I know the 6D is vary capable I am just concerned I may miss all the features of the 5D series bodies. I feel the only time I would be using the 6D would be for portrait and landscapes but you know how that goes. I don't want to eat my words in 6 months.

6D/7D2 is a great combo.

If you can save up a bit more than get a 5D3 but you may just end up selling the 7D2 if you do but might miss the reach.

Also consider waiting until next spring/summer for the 6D2. The 6D and 5D3 will be really reasonable at that point.

I would seek opinions from the pros and not the hobby shooters..

I agree that having a crop and FF can be really nice.

Also agree that since you have a modern/current camera now, that waiting might prove beneficial. I think the next 6D will move up in the food chain, significantly, and be a 5DIII with a kick ass sensor. I bet it is shipping by the first week of March.

Chauncey, What really defines a pro in your mind? To me that's a very loose term. If you feel a pro is a photographer that collects a paycheck shooting photography then I feel you are way off base. To me a pro is someone that has a passion for photography. This forum is full of people that fit my definition of PRO. Just my opinion.

I've expressed my displeasure of "pros" on another thread.

The OP has a 7d mark ii, a camera which should suffice quite well...unless it's a want/ need scenario.

I don't know if I agree completely with Chauncey but here's a dictionary definition of professional,
"(of a person) engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as a pastime.
"a professional boxer"
synonyms: paid, salarie
d"

A person who has a passion for something but doesn't get paid for it would be an "enthusiast." I don't think you can change the meanings of word just to suit yourself.
Also keep in mind that most pros don't switch to the latest and greatest. Equipment has to fill a specific need, not want. There's also having to pay for it with the income from photography after feeding your family and paying the bills. Pros use what works understanding that better gear doesn't alwaysake a better photographer.
That being said the 6D is a great camera, has great high ISO, and is great for portraits. With the right lenses the 7D2 you have isn't far off. If you want to future proof yourself a little get a 5D3 as they're going for cheaper now that the 5D4 is out.

Sufficiently narrowing the question will provide the proper answer. If full frame is the only criterion, there are less expensive cameras than the 6D. If AI-servo AF is part of the bang, you need more bucks than the 6D.
